Check Out Justin Rizzo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Rizzo.

Hi Justin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a worship leader, recording artist, playwright, songwriter, and composer based in Kansas City, Missouri USA.

Worship and music have always been huge passions in my life. I started leading worship at the age of 12. My first instrument was a set of drums I learned to play at nine years old. (Not counting the recorder which I started at age seven—which I cherished greatly ;).

Many years ago, a mentor asked me what my dream was. I told him that I wanted to impact people through music and the creative arts.

So, I set out on that journey.

In 2004 I moved to Kansas City, Missouri to join the staff as a full-time worship leader with the International House of Prayer. Since then, my job has consisted of leading a ton of worship (about 15 hours a week), songwriting, and training worship leaders.

Then in April of 2009, I got a passion for arts and entertainment. This is a long story for another day. But in short, since 2009 I’ve written and produced four full-length musicals and continue to write musicals, screenplays, books, and am pretty much obsessed with creating anything that tells an amazing story.

I haven’t looked back since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There has been great pain, fear, setback, and insecurity over the years coupled with many breakthroughs and amazing things that have happened. So many times, I’ve felt alone. So many times, I felt confused and struggled to press into creating.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Dove Award-nominated artist, worship leader, songwriter, coach, and I also own a production company called Firelight Creative. I’ve released several albums and been featured on multiple compilation projects along with writing and producing four full-length musicals. My “Between Two Worlds” musical was voted Best New Musical by Broadway World. I travel extensively to lead worship and speak at events around the world.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been an entrepreneur and loved building and creating things to impact others. My first business was a failed attempt at starting a Greetings Card company at age ten followed by my penny-saver paper route at age 12.
