Check Out Hannah Fahnholz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Fahnholz.

Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up dancing in the KC area and then attended Point Park University to continue my training in Pittsburgh, PA, and start my professional career as a dancer.

PPU brought a lot of exciting opportunities/jobs such as NFL Kick-Off Concert with the Black Eyed Peas, and roles for dancers in movies shot locally such as “Love and Other Drugs” and “The Dark Knight Rises.”

A few years and many injuries later, I moved back home to pursue my love of choreography where I now work full-time at BPM Dance Complex along with doing guest choreography and judging dance competitions all over the country, dance is such a beautiful passion to have because you can stay a part of it, no matter your age.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Pursuing dance as a career is never easy. You have to have thick skin and it’s very demanding on your body and mental health. I have moderate/severe scoliosis and that was something I struggled with a lot. I had a really strict ballet teacher from Russia that once told me I would never make it in the dance world because of it. It took all that I had to prove her wrong.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love to choreograph pieces that tell a story, Some are personal and painful, and others are fiction. I love to help dancers connect and anchor their emotions to a specific purpose.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I genuinely want to know the dancers I’m working with. What have they been through or what do they struggle with? I feel like understanding each individual kid can inspire growth within themselves and even be quite healing to be in a piece they can relate to.
