Daily Inspiration: Meet Allison Natalia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Natalia.

Allison Natalia

Hi, Allison. We are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Costa Rica. I come from a big family. I have five sisters, so we are a total of six girls. Unfortunately, my parents separated when I was very young. My mother and I moved to another city to live with relatives, and I started elementary school at a different school. Growing up in a humble environment was challenging as I had to adapt to a new routine, a new house, and a new school while my mother worked to support us. Being away from my dad and sisters during my early years was difficult. My parents could no longer live together, so the family broke, and with it, my heart. As the youngest sibling, my mother decided to move away with me and did not return to my childhood home until three years later, around my late elementary school years.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It was a challenging childhood. From a young age, I was bullied at school for being overweight. This led to depression, and I eventually moved back to my childhood home with my mother to complete elementary, middle, and high school. During this time, my life felt confusing, and I did not understand why these changes were happening to me or why people would bully me. During my senior year of high school, I attended a Christian school. Sadly, I experienced bullying to the point where I had very dark thoughts, but my faith in Christ grew during this complicated and challenging time. I am blessed to have a loving family; my five sisters have been incredibly supportive. I have found peace and a sense of belonging in my faith community. As an adult, I understand that God is the only one who can save you from evil distractions. A few years later, one of my sisters moved to the United States, and after her move, I followed her. I have been in the United States for two years, which has been a life-changing experience. Everything I’ve learned in Costa Rica; my faith, my ministry in God, and my resilience has been transferred to my new life, my new routine, and together with my family, I continue the work God gave me to do, spread his word through social media and radio transmission.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Before my move to the United States, I worked as an elementary school teacher and Portuguese teacher, a career I love to this day. However, my passion has been, and is, broadcasting, so after my move to the United States, I decided to reach out to several radio stations, and one based out of Tampa, FL (Radio Restauración) allowed me to start my segment on Tuesdays and Fridays. My segment is called “Cita con el Espíritu Santo,” meaning “Appointment with the Holy Spirit.” My program focuses on daily life issues, worldwide issues affecting different cultures, and challenges as a woman in a foreign country. I also interview renowned artists and people who have transformed their lives through Christ and shown resilience in difficult times. I am also part of a radio station (Tómalo Radio) based in the Dominican Republic, where I interview local talent. I am the proudest of my strength during difficult times. I feel I have a gift for spreading the word of the Lord, and I want to share it with everyone. We use social media to keep up with mundane issues in this modern era. Still, these tools can be used so differently regarding our self-esteem; sharing with others, caring for others, and growing in Christ is what matters the most for me, and I am proud to say I put GOD before anyone else or anyone else in the world.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
After the Covid-19 crisis, I’ve left to appreciate life, family, work, and our daily challenges. The experience brought me closer to my inner self and helped me understand how vulnerable we are and that life can end anytime. It has been almost four years since the pandemic. Still, I can see the side effects of a susceptible society. I truly believe these challenges motivate me to get closer to my audience. My broadcasting work on social media is more than just getting likes or clicks; it means a way to get through to people—a place to share our frustrations and successes. I hope my ministry continues touching lives daily because I am positive that God sent me here to continue his work and work with our brothers and sisters in our wonderful world.
