Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kaylea Cantrell.
Hi Dr. Kaylea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My love for healthcare began at a very young age. Since I can remember, I have had a passion for helping people and always wanted to be a doctor. In high school, I got my first taste of healthcare as a student athletic trainer for Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma. It fueled my fire for helping people and opened my eyes to opportunities in the sports world. Fast forward to undergrad, I went to MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe. I originally majored in Pre-med with a focus on Biology. In my sophomore year, I started researching medical school options, and I landed on osteopathic medicine. I loved looking at the human body and searching for the cause of people’s ailments. Sometime during that year, chiropractic was brought up.
I had seen a chiropractor for sports performance and overall quality of life. I always loved going and knew it helped me feel my best. I visited Cleveland University Kansas City, knowing that was the right path for me. Chiropractic was everything I was searching for. I would help so many people, help people find the root cause of their sicknesses, have an outstanding work/life balance, and work with people from all walks of life. They say that chiropractic has its way of finding people, and it for sure found me! I quickly added a major in Kinesiology and started prepping for Chiropractic school. MNU has a concurrent program with Cleveland, so while I began at CUKC in September of 2017, I was also a senior at MNU. It was one of my most challenging years. However, I made it. I graduated from MNU in May 2018 with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and a minor in Biology. I graduated from Cleveland in December 2020 and opened Catalyst Chiropractic in May 2021. It was a wild ride, but I’m so grateful for this journey and how it led me to serve this community!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was not always easy, but so worth it! Everything happens for a reason. Each challenge has brought me to this space, and I’m so grateful. Opening a practice right out of school is a challenging feat in general. On top of that, we were still in the middle of a pandemic and mask mandates. Real estate in JOCO moves very quickly. I had multiple spaces and loans fall through. This was a gut check, for sure. In the nick of time, I found the perfect space, and everything fell into place. I was able to open my doors in May of 2021. In December that year, my husband and I discovered I was pregnant with our first baby girl! We were so thrilled. While this was such a welcomed event, managing a new practice with no staff and new motherhood was challenging. As I sit here two and a half years into practice with my second baby on the way, I feel nothing short of grateful. I am grateful for all the struggles that got me here. The struggles make the reward even more special.
We’ve been impressed with Catalyst Chiropractic, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
Catalyst was born from a deep desire not only to help people feel their best but to cultivate a healing environment for all people.
What sets us apart?
Our adjustments are specific & gentle enough for newborns to geriatric patients. We are a nervous system-focused office. This means that the nervous system that controls all bodily functions needs no interference to function properly. When we interfere in our spines, the communication between the brain and body is diminished. When this happens, our functionality decreases. Chiropractic restores this communication by the adjustment. Healing can occur from the inside out! This dysfunction can cause pain, but even without pain, we can help you function your best!
Who do we treat?
In short,- we see people from all walks of life; however, my specialty is prenatal and pediatrics. I have extensive training in preconception, prenatal, and pediatric care. I am working through the ICPA certification and am Webster Certified. This certification is focused on optimizing the pelvis for the pregnant patient. I love serving our mommas and their babies! It is such a high honor to care for them at this particular time. I also see wellness and personal injury patients. To say we see a diverse population would be an understatement! We would love to serve you and help you live life optimally!
What are your plans for the future?
Catalyst has so many exciting things coming our way! The biggest thing lately is expanding our reach. We are opening a satellite clinic in Gardner, KS. It’s always been my desire to help as many people as possible. Opening another location is allowing me the flexibility to see a whole new community of people. This has been on my heart for years, and it’s so surreal that it’s happening. You heard it here; first, Gardner, we are here for you!
