Inspiring Conversations with Jill Painter, CKD of Bella Kitchens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Painter, CKD.

Jill Painter, CKD

Hi Jill, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
After earning my degree in Interior Design from K-State, I started working as the receptionist at a new kitchen and bath showroom. Talk about starting at the ground level. I worked my way up, learning from the other designers and studying independently. I loved kitchen design’s drafting and space planning challenges, like deconstructing a puzzle and putting it back together better than before. 2006, I passed the exam to earn my Certified Kitchen Designer designation from the National Kitchen and Bath Association. In 2011, I started my own business as a full-service kitchen and bath company providing space planning, design, and products. I partner with contractors to execute the construction aspect of the remodel.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been some unexpected curve balls and challenges along the way. A few times before I started my own business, I took jobs that weren’t exactly what I wanted to be doing, but I always gained insight from each experience. A few times after I started my business, I had to move offices because of leasing or ownership changes of the landlords, which was very disruptive. I’ve had plans to open a large showroom fall through several times. But I developed more determination and resilience with each challenge, and I always make the best of where I’m at and continue to focus and grow my business.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Bella Kitchens offers space planning, design, and product selection for kitchens, master baths, bars, and offices. Anything that involves space planning and cabinetry, but kitchens are my specialty. I provide all finish materials such as cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, hardware, tile, etc. I partner with contractors to do the remodel portion of the project and can also advise on appliance selections. I love getting to know my clients and their lifestyle so I can focus on making their space functional and efficient, which lays the groundwork for all of the beautiful materials, colors, and patterns we layer in to create a space they love to spend time in. It’s a true collaboration with my clients; they feel heard and valued throughout the process.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I volunteer for several animal shelters, and I’m also a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters. I also love running 5k races.
