Meet Gary Telleen of Wichita Piano Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Telleen.

Hi Gary, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My interest in piano technology started around the age of 12 years old. From there, I apprenticed with a local technician in the Colorado area until college. I attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS, majoring in music. After college, I moved to Mesa, Arizona, where I opened my first piano business in 1987, specializing in tuning, repair, restoration, moving, automatic player system installations, and sales. In 2008, I moved back to the Wichita area. Our specialty in the Midwest is Steinway and high-end grand piano restorations, high-end piano service & moving, and PianoDisc player systems in grand pianos. Our 6000-square-foot restoration facility is located in the Wichita area. We do a limited amount of high-end tuning services in the KC Metro areas west of the state line in addition to the Wichita areas. Today, we are a family-run business, with over half of our employees being family.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a highly specialized field, it isn’t easy to find qualified employees.
