Today, we’d like to introduce you to Angie Mohr. Angie was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Kristin Mudgett.
Angie, can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a small town, where my parents worked tirelessly to provide for my brothers and me. I’ll always remember watching them make the most out of their modest incomes, finding clever ways to support our family. Their resilience and resourcefulness taught me invaluable lessons that have shaped who I am today. They instilled in me the importance of saving money and making smart investments, and even my mom went back to college when I was just a kid. Their determination eventually led us to a comfortable life, and we all had the opportunity to go to college. Their journey inspired me in countless ways.
In 2012, as a single (millennial) woman in my late twenties, working in Marketing, I purchased my very first home—a charming fixer-upper nestled in the heart of Kansas City, MO. It was a source of great pride for me personally, and it was everything I had been searching for in a home: quaint, well-located just outside the city, and brimming with untapped potential. Little did I know that taking on this project would be a labor of love and a test of my abilities. Thankfully, I had the support of my family and friends and a wealth of knowledge gained from YouTube videos to guide me through the renovation process. While I handled some tasks myself, like a true DIY enthusiast, I wisely enlisted professionals to tackle the major transformations in the main bathroom and kitchen.
That first home purchase was a turning point in my life. Witnessing the incredible metamorphosis of my house ignited a passion within me that I couldn’t ignore. Working in marketing had sharpened my eye for design, and seeing the power of renovation firsthand, I knew I had found my calling.
As the real estate market started heating up in 2014, my fiancé and I, both full-time professionals in marketing and advertising, dreamed of taking our financial growth to the next level. Real estate resonated deeply with both of us, and one evening, fueled by a bottle of wine, we decided to embark on this exhilarating journey together. Over the next few years, we began saving diligently, pouring our hearts and souls into improving our own home, and even celebrated our marriage and the arrival of our first child… which admittedly slowed down the start of our journey into real-estate.
About a year after our daughter was born, fate led us to a fantastic opportunity—a fixer-upper in Overland Park, KS. We seized the moment, acquiring the property and diving headfirst into a complete renovation from top to bottom. We poured our energy into every nook and cranny, leaving no stone unturned.
In addition to our “live-in flip” business, we yearned to expand our real estate endeavors further. And so, in 2021, we took the leap and acquired our first investment property, returning to the neighborhood where I had purchased my initial home. It was a thrilling adventure, and we’re already setting our sights on the next property, eagerly building the real estate portfolio we’ve been dreaming of. We know there will be more fixer-uppers in our future, and with each step, we’re steadily making progress toward our goals.
Along the way, we were fortunate to meet Kristin Mudgett, a remarkable realtor who has played an instrumental role in our journey. From the moment we connected during the sale of my first home, it felt as though we had found a kindred spirit. Kristin’s extensive knowledge of home buying and her deep understanding of the Kansas City market have been invaluable to us. Sharing our aspirations with her was met with immediate understanding, and she has since become an irreplaceable partner, so to speak, in our real estate endeavors. Without her guidance and unwavering support, we wouldn’t have the confidence to continue forging ahead.
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
I work full-time in Marketing, at a company called Archer Education. We help colleges and universities grow their enrollment through marketing, lead nurturing, effective admissions practices, and a focus on the student experience. I head up the digital student engagement department, which basically runs digital lead nurturing campaigns to engage students from awareness all the way through graduation. I’ve worked in marketing since 2005 and have been in higher ed for more than 15 years!
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Kristin Mudgett and Kristin Mudgett Realtor and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Kristin Mudgett Realtor.
I feel so fortunate to have crossed paths with Kristin! There are so many things that set her apart from other agents, but here are a few things that really stand out to me.
From the moment we connected during the sale of my first home, it felt as though we had found a kindred spirit in Kristin. Her extensive knowledge of home buying and her deep understanding of the Kansas City market have been invaluable to us.
Everyone has different goals, needs, and expectations when it comes to buying and selling a home and Kristin understands that. She won’t show you a home until she understands not only what you are looking for, but your goals for home ownership.
Sharing our goals with her was met with immediate understanding, and she has since become an irreplaceable partner in our real estate endeavors. We can always trust her to answer our questions and go to bat for us when it comes to buying and selling. Her business acumen is unrivaled AND she is always so quick, thoughtful, and thorough in her communication. Any time we hit road bumps, she’s right there to guide us. Without her guidance and unwavering support, we wouldn’t have the confidence to continue forging ahead.
