Rising Stars: Meet Mariah Haberman

Previously, I was the host and brand director of the longest-running tourism TV show Discover Wisconsin. I brought the Midwest’s best foods, festivals, sights, and activities to the screens of more than 700,000 loyal fans every weekend. It was a dream job, so leaving it was not an easy decision. But ultimately, I decided I wanted to own my own company and my own brand, and now I work with CVBs, chambers and tourism organizations throughout the Midwest. I also do some consulting in marketing and PR for Midwest brands.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
What fun would a smooth road be? Ha! It hasn’t been easy, no. In many ways, I felt I was wearing a pair of golden handcuffs in my previous role. So, deciding to take even more control of my career and do my own thing took a bit of gumption. It’s equal parts terrifying, exhausting and exhilarating, but it has been so worth it.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Midwest travel is at the heart of everything I do as a content creator. As a TV host of Discover Wisconsin, I often found that Midwesterners weren’t even aware of the travel gems in their own backyards. I love helping my followers see amazing places that are just a road trip away!

I got married in Kansas City recently and my husband and I are building a home in Lenexa, so it’s been fun getting to share some life and home updates these days, too.

I do work with several brands – on both a local and national level – from influencer partnerships to affiliate marketing. And I have some fun Midwest-based travel projects coming up!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Perseverance – without a doubt. I believe in just knocking down doors to do whatever it takes and reminding yourself that everything is “figure-outable.”
