Today we’d like to introduce you to NiX Crew.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
We were all dancers in the KC community with different styles and backgrounds that started as two separate dance crews. After a collaboration, we decided to fuse as one group. As we got closer and developed as a team and friends, we pushed through trials and tribulations and improved together to participate in the fantastic events we had done.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Merging two groups took work. We’ve had to learn to make compromises, such as picking songs, scheduling, and even finding a place to practice with so many people. As the group went on, some members, through mutual discussions, went on their ways. Through participating in events, we’ve also gained some new members and friends, which leads us to the fantastic team we have today. We can create fun and exciting performances together because we have different styles and personalities. While we had internal conflicts about management, differing opinions, and teaching styles, we pushed through and became even better friends and dancers because of it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a KC dance group that does a little bit of everything. For example, we’ve done hip-hop, K-pop, and J-pop performances. We focus primarily on live performances but love to film for YouTube as well and are lucky enough to have great videographers on our team. Occasionally, we also host dance events for an upcoming K-pop concert or just for fun. What sets us apart is that we love adding comedic aspects to our performances. Our most recent would include pre-recorded skits as transitions between songs at NakaKon’s Idol Fest. We recently won second place at Wichita State University’s dance competition with one of our iconic skits. Hearing people laugh in the audience shows how our hard work pays off. We are so proud of how far we have come and how much every single member loves what they do.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Many of us have known each other for years but have just started dancing together as a team. We have been known to make last-minute creative decisions before performances, like changing choreography to making entirely new audio the night before. When we are all together, we come up with new material at the most random times. At our most recent competition, we won an excellent award chosen by the staff made just for us because they enjoyed working with us.
