Life & Work with Randy Trevino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Trevino.

Hi Randy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into wedding photography and video started from a love of creativity. I’ve always been into things like music, design, and arts. Before diving into photography, I worked at a local Spanish newspaper, La Prensa. I was an editor and general manager, which taught me a lot about designing, editing, and taking photos. I wanted to capture all the special moments when my second child was born. So, I got a basic camera and started learning everything I could about the camera and taking great photos. This started with my family and friends and grew into something more. I saw that wedding photography was changing. Instead of the usual formal wedding photos, there were more creative, story-like pictures. I liked this new style and wanted to be part of it. But it was tricky to start. I took some courses about wedding photography and the business side of things, but finding my first clients was a challenge. Luckily, a friend was getting married and hadn’t seen a photographer yet.

I offered to do the job for a friendly price, as it was my first time. From there, I got more and more opportunities. As our business expanded, I found a new passion – videography. The trending cinematic style caught my eye, and I couldn’t resist diving into it. Looking back, It’s been over a decade since I and my wife Olga took our first steps into the wedding industry. She’s been my rock throughout this journey, and her support has been priceless. Over time, we realized we wanted to build a team that shared our passion. So, we’ve recently started growing our crew. We’re now a group of four creatives who love what we do. Looking back, it’s been a fantastic adventure. And the exciting part? We’re just getting started. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Even as our business began to flourish, self-confidence was something I struggled with a great deal. I’m an introvert by nature, and reaching out to people was not my strong suit. Especially because English is not my first language, it felt like climbing a mountain each time I had to initiate a conversation or make a phone call. Luckily, my wife, Olga, was always there, helping me break the ice and start conversations. In the early days, we used to meet with couples in person before they booked us or at least chat over the phone. This was an added challenge for me, but I knew it was crucial for the growth of our business. I had to face my fears head-on. Over time, things have, thankfully, changed. These days, almost 90 percent of our clients handle everything online and through emails. This change has played into my strengths and helped reduce my anxiety a lot. With the reputation we’ve built over the past decade, the need for face-to-face meetings or phone calls has lessened considerably. Yet, I can’t deny that the fear of rejection was always in my mind. I worried that my accent would be a barrier or couples wouldn’t warm up to me. Confidence was a significant hurdle, but every day I’ve tried to remind myself that these fears are just a part of the journey. Overcoming these struggles, one step at a time has been an integral part of my personal and professional growth.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’re primarily in the business of capturing beautiful memories. We specialize in both photography and videography, offering couples a comprehensive package for their special day, eliminating the need for them to hire separate teams. What sets us apart, and what we are often recognized for, is our distinctive video style. Our approach is deeply romantic and emotional. We aim to create not just a video but a narrative that tugs at the heartstrings and resonates personally. Recently, our hard work and unique style were recognized when we were voted Best in NWA in the videography category. It’s an accolade we’re extremely proud of. It’s a testament to our dedication to each project, fueling our passion to keep refining our craft. Every couple has a unique story, and we consider it our privilege to tell it in the most beautiful, touching way possible. That’s what sets us apart – our commitment to capturing the events and emotions of the day.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The future of the photography and videography industry is, without a doubt, exciting. While it’s tough to predict exactly what the next 5-10 years will bring, one thing is clear – it won’t look like today. The creative world is always in flux, with new styles and trends emerging constantly. As a creative professional, I aim to stay on the cutting edge and embrace these changes as they come. The rapid advancement of technology, particularly the introduction of artificial intelligence in our field, could lead to transformative changes. Although it seems daunting, I believe these advancements are to our benefit. Tasks that were once tedious or time-consuming will become easier and faster, so we’ll have more room to focus on our artistry. One area I see significant potential is photo and video editing. With AI, editing will become more streamlined yet more nuanced. We’ll be able to mold our work even more precisely to our vision, enhancing our artistic expression. So, the industry is set to evolve in ways that can empower us to create more effectively and artistically. The key will be to adapt and leverage these advancements to our advantage, as they have the potential to propel our growth exponentially. And I am excited to see where this journey takes us.
