Community Highlights: Meet Jacqueline Youtsos, MD of ReNu Medical & Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Youtsos, MD.

Hi Jacqueline, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Good Morning! Growing up in Wisconsin, I was exposed to many medical fields; my grandmother was a nurse, my uncle was a plastic surgeon, and my sister was a nurse. Always knowing I wanted to help people, medicine became my passion. During my medical training, I was diagnosed with melanoma on my left arm, which piqued my interest in the dermatology field. Growing up on the lake, being on the swim team, tanning beds, and years of being a lifeguard had caught up with me. After graduation from the University of Chicago Family Medicine Residency program, my passion brought me to New Mexico. As a board-certified Family Medicine Physician, my specialty is dermatology and skin-related conditions, which are in high demand, especially in rural areas. In Ruidoso and Roswell, New Mexico, I cared for hundreds of patients and enjoyed life in the Southwest. Meanwhile, I met my husband in Roswell. He is a physical therapist and is originally from Kansas. He attended Rockhurst University for his training. While we loved living in New Mexico, our family brought us to Pittsburg, Kansas.

In early 2016, we took a leap of faith to Pittsburg, where I opened ReNu Medical & Spa! Growing the practice has been a wonderful experience. From a two-room office and only 4 other staff members to a wonderful medical office building, a beautiful spa attached, and seven satellite clinics with 15 staff members, we love Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri! Being able to bring dermatology skincare to this area and care for many people has been remarkable.

There have been many ups and downs, including settling down and having my two beautiful daughters, being diagnosed with colorectal cancer at age 35, and being a survivor! Work was my driving force, and caring for others during my chemo and radiation. In the past seven years of being here, I have had a few other opportunities that have brought people to Pittsburg. As a speaker and trainer for Alma Lasers North America, customers have come here to experience different types of Aesthetic lasers. Additionally, three years ago, I was a co-creator to develop a medical-grade skincare line with prescription-strength products and CBD called TreCeuticals. The opportunity to create a product with such powerful ingredients all packed together and gives remarkable results is truly outstanding. The first of its kind on the market! Today, my staff and I continue to grow daily. We look forward to caring for those around us in Southeast Kansas and beyond!

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There will always be mountains, and it is about the climb! I love that song by Miley Cyrus; It is the best anthem because people will always have challenges in life, and you have the decision to move forward. Moving to Pittsburg, I did not know two people other than my husband’s family. Starting a practice from scratch was a challenge. However, I quickly met other physicians in town who were extremely helpful. I was surprised by how supportive the area was for independent practices. Once we could navigate the insurance and staffing, the rest was easy. Surprisingly, those are still the challenges I find today! During my health issues, my patients and staff were highly supportive. They are the ones that kept my focus day by day, and now, almost five years later, they continue to ask how my family and health are doing. With risk comes great reward!

As you know, we’re big fans of ReNu Medical & Spa. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
ReNu Medical & Spa is a medical practice in Southeast Kansas specializing in medical and cosmetic dermatology and skin care. In 2016 the office opened, and in October 2020, we opened our new beautiful 8,300 sq ft office building in Pittsburg. Medically, we see patients for skin cancer, skin checks, acne, rosacea, psoriasis, and many other skin-related conditions. With the larger medical office space, we are now building a state-of-the-art spa experience! I have always wanted to open a spa and have a wonderful place to experience facials, massages, body scrubs, body wraps, waxing, hot stones, and couples’ massages. I also want to be unique and bring something back home that we didn’t have in the area, so I bought a Float Pod. These help with swelling, arthritis, anxiety, and depression. If you have yet to experience one, you should! So many health benefits from athletes to older people. Being part of Alma Lasers has been remarkable. I have always loved technology, and my experience with lasers started at the Beckman Laser Institute in Irvine, CA. Bringing such amazing lasers to rural Kansas, like laser hair removal, CO2 laser resurfacing, laser liposuction, non-invasive body contouring, Intense Pulsed Light, and tattoo removal, allows our patients large city experiences. Teaching patients and my staff everything that can be done with these fantastic machines has been so much fun. I love to teach, and those are some of my favorite months when we have medical or nursing students! Our TreCeuticals Skin Care line is also something you can experience in my office. Please talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy.
Simple – making others happy! As I said earlier, my passion is helping others, whether with my family or patients. I have two beautiful daughters and a loving husband. We love spending time together, whether at home with our two goofy St Bernards and chickens or swimming at Farlington Lake in the Summer. With my patients, dermatology was an interest for many reasons, but with the skin, you can see the changes. Unlike diabetes and blood pressure, which will change and is very important, the skin can change your appearance, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression! Acne cleared, scalp psoriasis resolved and stable, skin cancer excised, botox and filler done, hair gone from unwanted areas, so many visible adjustments that make people happy! When a patient comes through my door crying because of psoriasis on their arms and legs that has been affecting their work or making them take time off, and a month or two later, they float through the door with a smile ear to ear; those are moments that my staff and I enjoy!
