Conversations with Andrea Buettner Wardell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Buettner Wardell.

Hi Andrea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in Real Estate in 2008. I worked through the difficult times in the housing market by always staying in front of people. I can start a conversation with strangers, so I’m always open about talking about real estate. I worked in several brokerages over the years, working with all types of clients, but found myself building a niche with out-of-state investors. By the time I started my own company in 2018, Wardell & Holmes Real Estate, almost all of my business was by referral. We started as myself and one other agent, Katie Christianson. The company has grown by over 25% each year in revenue. We now have 26 agents on our roster and see no signs of slowing down. In this business, you must be fluid; the personal touch goes a long way. I have been blessed to be around people from all walks of life, all ages, and stages of people. This has allowed me to be open-minded and have the tools to learn from many sources over the years. I own a portfolio of properties and am inspired by growth and change.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In real estate, the road is always bumpy. The market constantly fluctuates, and you are dealing with people’s emotions. Our investor clients are consistent, but we pride ourselves on the diversity we offer to everyone. From first-time home buyers to sellers who have been in their homes for over 50 years to seasoned investors or new investors building portfolios, we treat people the same. While other offices struggled during Covid, we continued to be there for our clients and customers. Sure, it was different, but we sought ways to get the job done, which proved successful.

Thanks for sharing that. Can you tell us more about your work next?
My main role with Wardell & Holmes Real Estate is being the Broker. I not only own the company, but I am responsible for every transaction that my agents are involved in. We, of course, have an excellent compliance department, but there are always many questions. Every transaction is different. Every client is different. Every agent is different in how they handle things. I have my business book, and my specialty is working with investors. Working with an individual on their home purchase or sale always brings me back to why I got into this business, the people. The thing I’m the proudest of is my company’s reputation. I do not take integrity, honesty, and standing by your word lightly. It is something that is expected of our agents and is not negotiable. My ability to be fluid and remain calm sets me apart. I’m a tough advocate for my clients who goes beyond expectations to get them the best deal. I am excited about my upcoming investment in myself, my company, and the real estate developments I am working on.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My first mentor is the one who suggested that I get into Real Estate. I was waiting tables, and she liked my personality and energy. She offered me a chance, and it changed my life. Everyone should seek a mentor in their chosen field. You need to learn from someone who has been there and done that. I, myself continue to mentor my newest agents. Everyone who wants it should be allowed to succeed if willing to do the work. You should never stop networking. You never know where that event or meeting could lead you. Knowledge is the key factor to success. The more you know, the more people you know, which leads to a better understanding of the market and the products that accompany it. Knowledge is power. Never stop learning. Never stop seeking new opportunities. Never stop listening.
