Hi James, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the owner and founder of Brain Freeze Mobile Daiquiri bar, and this concept was birthed during the covid lockdown period when the world was deciding what to do next. I travel a lot to places in the south, like Texas and New Orleans, and one of my favorite spots to visit is daiquiri shops. These places were always packed and filled with fun, laughter and a guaranteed to quench your thirst, and I wanted to bring that same concept to the metro area with a twist. During covid, I participated in a manifestation group where we would get together on Zoom weekly and discuss various goals we wanted to make for that year. My idea was to open a daiquiri shop but to make it a mobile shop as shops were still in the lockdown phase, and people were deathly afraid of being too close to strangers in public. After many discussions and figuring out how to make this possible, Brain Freeze was born! Today, We have mobile units that can service the metro area from Topeka to Lawrence, KS, as well as Kansas City and Lee’s Summit. Our staffing has blossomed from where it was just me doing events to now. We have over 10 employees to help operate the stations to that everyone across the city can enjoy their Brain Freezes!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Unfortunately, dealing with liquor and its stipulations has not been the easiest business map for us. I picked one of the most challenging ventures to become a first-time entrepreneur. There are many obstacles and hurdles to getting a liquor license, not only with the state but also with the city. Since we are a mobile unit, we have to be licensed in each principality that we go into from locally to the state, which takes a lot of time and a lot of funds that I initially needed to budget for. As time progressed and I started getting my name out, everything fell into place. I have made great connections with our business owners and leaders in the area that have helped guide and mentor me to be in the current position that I am in now. Being a solo businessman has had moments where you want to pull your hair out (even though I’m bald), but the rewards of seeing customers happy and watching doors open have been gratifying and humbling. I have learned directly that it’s not what you know but who you know.

Let the inventor of chill take you on an adventure that you need! Brain Freeze is a mobile daiquiri bar that caters to various events across the metro that sells frozen daiquiris, margaritas, sangrias, and wine slushies! We set up events indoors or outdoors; whether it’s a small occasion of 20 people or a large event with 10,000, we can deliver the freeze to any event! Our menu has 25 flavors that will cater to your taste buds if you search for that cajun feeling. We also carry virgin options so kids and those that do not drink can enjoy the same flavors as the rest of the party.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Every business owner is a risk taker as you take a chance on hope and prayers that strangers will love and support your dream and vision even when no one else sees or 50 others do it. I saw the risk as easier to take as very few businesses in the area currently specialize in what I can offer and provide. Mobile bartenders and beer stations exist, but can you name another mobile daiquiri bar? The choice was easy to gamble on as I wanted to come into the market, leave my footprint before others came in, and try to replicate or take a piece of the market pie. My business is fun, exciting, creative, and unique, as few can produce what we do. I imagine how far we have come within our first year, and I can wait to see how far we continue to grow next year!
