Life & Work with Lexi St. John

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi St. John.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I’ll explain where my handle name, The Bop Around, came from. Whenever my friends or I wanted to get out but were unsure of our plans, we would say, “Want just to get out and bop around somewhere?” I would find the most incredible places and businesses when I would be out bopping around, whether in KC or while traveling. I wanted to share this with others. I created the TikTok account right after COVID, when the world began to open up. I was also newly out of college and excited to explore Kansas City and travel again. I hadn’t been out of my little college town too much while I was there. I used my TikTok account to document the first of my trips, like Charleston, Nashville, and Napa. When I wasn’t traveling, I was finding new places within Kansas City that I had never been to before or seen to be hidden gems. Other people would want to hear about them too. One night I posted a video sharing all the places in KC I visited over a weekend, and the account took off from there.

Now, I not only share businesses across the Kansas City area, but I’m sharing my travels, navigating life, and experiences I didn’t know I could have in KC, such as a helicopter tour. One of my favorite things is working with small businesses and helping them share their passions. It is so. Cool when I can help them grow. I also enjoy connecting with other women and learning from each other. I love being able to give them ideas and insight. I learn just as much from my audience because people are willing to assist with an answer if I ask a question. They also send me recommendations they think I would like. Overall I’m over the moon with what my platform has become. It has grown larger than I ever expected. I’m only on some social media platforms and learning to create different kinds of content. This has become so much fun to me, and I plan to continue to expand on it. I love the creativity I can have and sharing who I am.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge is navigating everything related to being a content creator. All creators are different; we all have different audiences and what we like to make. There needs to be a manual on how this works and the best way to grow your platforms and bond with followers. Influencer marketing has started to emerge more in Kansas City, so I have to learn how to take that on and how I can turn this into more of a full-time job.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m mostly known for my video content, specifically videos with voice-over. I love filming and editing videos that tell a story about one of my experiences, whether with a small business, brand, or life. I like to make those watching like they are right there with me. If it’s a place or event, I want my audience to be excited and curious to check it out themselves. People love a sneak peek into something. I pride myself on being genuine with my content and wanting to feel approachable.
