Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Stewart.
Hi Matt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
So American West Clothing Co. originally started as a complementary business to accompany my music. Instead of offering typical artist merch, I wanted to go beyond that and create an entire brand. I hope it will eventually grow into a community in its regard.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a clothing brand has been a new experience, with many lessons and growing pains. Like anything worthwhile, it hasn’t been the smoothest of roads. With that said, I’m excited to see what lies ahead and where we can eventually take the brand.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
That’s the exciting thing about American West, and I see it as a different creative outlet from my music. And many times, people don’t even realize that a musician runs it, and that’s cool. I love that the clothing and music can both stand on there and yet, at the same time, can come together as a combined unit. Like most creatives, the thing I’m most proud of is typically the latest project I’m stoked about, haha. At the end of the day, though, I’m beyond happy to bring value and community, whether through clothing or music. I now have a Kansas City Chiefs-themed song titled “Yellow and Red,” and I think a lot of KC might dig it!
What do you think about luck?
Like anything, I believe there’s always a bit of luck involved. (I will always gladly welcome more of it, haha) But at the same time, it comes down to your vision and support system when pursuing entrepreneurship or creative pursuits. The support of those around you is often where the true luck lies. Does that make sense?
