Check Out Carly Jones’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Jones. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Cahri’s (car-ree) Boutique LLC was founded on October 1st, 2021. We provide handmade contemporary garments, custom designs, and alterations. Using motivational power and fashion sustainability, we encourage our clients to define their aesthetics while upholding an unapologetic essence. We are queens, and thou shell act like such.

Our team will help to uplift our clients by building self-esteem and awareness. We are helping others to define their essence by embracing their morals, values, and character through physical appearance. Our slogan is “Serving Unapologetically,” and we want our clients to uphold confidence regardless of where they are or what they are doing.

Our company focuses on the importance of Sustainable Fashion. Our current goal is to advocate sustainable practices while working with companies that reflect similar beliefs. The fashion industry isn’t 100% sustainable because of the lack of technology. We need more innovators to explore and make more sustainable fabrics and machinery. There are multiple levels of fashion sustainability, and it’s in the eye of the beholder. Our company will do its part by creating garments using natural or recycled fabrics and purchasing or acquiring donated products/materials of exceptional quality with the means of keeping our prices low.

The Owner
Cahri’s Boutique was founded in Kansas City, MO, by Carly on October 1st, 2021. Carly was born and raised in St. Louis, MO, where she started sewing at the age of 15 when she was accepted into the North Technical Fashion Design program, but throughout the years, she considers herself a self-taught seamstress. She became interested in fashion design by watching television shows that promoted fashion design within the charters, such as That’s So Raven, Cheetah Girls, a few Mary-Kate and Ashely movies, etc. In 2013, Carly moved to Kansas City, MO, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (2015). Design is her passion, therapy, and what she loves to do! She loves that each new design embarks on a different creative challenge. I am in the process of rebranding myself as an extraordinary eveningwear designer. Take the classic eveningwear look to the next level using textured fabrics and vibrant colors. Coco Channel x Balenciaga x Rick Owens! I will joke around and say, “No more satin dresses!”

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest obstacle is remaining consistent with creating and branding my business. I work a full-time 9 to 5 profession in the construction industry and am a full-time mother, and life gets difficult trying to manage it all. My daughter releases my anxieties, motivates my drive to follow my dreams, and gives me stability.

Thanks for sharing that. Can you tell us more about your work next?
I am a project coordinator of four years at McCownGordon Construction. We are an employee-owned general contractor founded in Kansas City, MO – in 1999. We have expanded in Wichita, KS, Manhattan, KS, and Dallas-Fort Worth. I also actively participate in the MGC Cares committee and Co-Chair the Black Heritage – Business Recourse Group. I love my job and the company culture. We build differently!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I am working on God’s timing; prayer and faith without works are entirely dead. Over the years, my skill set has developed deeper because of the time I put into my craft. I would defiantly say that time is enduring. My biggest test was preparing for the Kansas City Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022 showcase. During this time, I was able to make garments in a variety of shapes and sizes. I took time to self-study and learn how to expand my knowledge in flat pattern making. Pattern making is patient, sewing is therapeutic, seam ripping is humbling, and turning a concept into a physical garment is disciplined and rewarding. Through prayer and manifestation, dreams come true no matter how long you wait; just be constant and never give up!
