Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Gauthier.
Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started my journey a bit later than most. I had some acne in my teens and was never educated about properly caring for it. I had worked in my twenties for several retail stores, vet offices, and the banking industry. I had my son, and when he was around 2 yrs old, I realized I wanted something more stable and family-friendly. I decided to go to esthetic school when I was 29. I loved the idea of mainly waxing. I graduated and got licensed in October 2020. I started my career at a local day spa. It was such a wonderful experience. I learned an incredible amount of knowledge. This year I spoke with my husband about starting my suite. He has been the most supportive person. On March 3rd, I officially opened Satsuma Esthetics. I focus on a more holistic approach using aromatherapy, lymphatic drainage, and marma point therapy. I also do full body waxing and natural brow and lash services.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been challenging. During school, I worked full time, then went to night classes, and tried to be a wife and mother. I missed out on lots of family time. I struggled with the guilt but knew it would be better in the long run. Before opening Satsuma Esthetics, I only worked for a few weeks. I was still determining how many clients would follow me from the day spa. The uncertainty was the stressful part.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work with Green Envee products. They are a plant-powered luxury skincare company focusing on organic, sustainability-sourced ingredients. I love focusing on the natural aspects of skincare. I want to show how powerful natural products can be. I focus on the natural brow and lash services. I also love waxing. I incorporate aromatherapy and massage techniques that connect the mind, body, and soul. The trendy thing right now is med spas or lash extensions. I wanted something different and something that I was passionate about. I am most proud of my son’s support and understanding he has been through this process.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I’ve always been considerate of what others are going through. The pandemic has made that much more prominent.
