Meet Alyssa Zimmerman of Prairie Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Zimmerman.

Hi Alyssa; thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started baking when I could pull a stool to the kitchen counter to help my mom. Whether Christmas cookies or a birthday cake, baking created lasting memories and joy. In early 2021 during the shutdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic, a good friend offered me the opportunity to start selling my baked goods. As a stay-at-home parent, making these treats gave me an outlet for my creativity and stress relief. By July, Suzy Belle’s Sweets was officially an insured LLC, ready to take the KC area by storm. Since then, I have participated in weddings, birthdays, celebrations of life, and vendor events, supporting many wonderful organizations in Kansas City and beyond.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
One of the biggest challenges as a baker has been ensuring I make enough goodies for events. In December, I partnered with Servaes Brewing Company in Shawnee to create a cookie flight to pair with the release of their holiday beer flight. It was so popular that I sold out of my cookies within the first 90 minutes!

Suzy Belle’s Sweets is an innovative small-batch home bakery specializing in gourmet cookies and cake balls. My quarter-pound cookies and cookie flights feature classic flavors like chocolate chip and flavors influenced by the city or created in collaboration with other local businesses. For instance, inspired by the snacks I grab at a Royals or Monarchs game, the Dugout Delight cookie has a peanut butter cookie base topped with creamy homemade caramel buttercream and caramel corn from Pop Culture in downtown Overland Park.

My family and friends bring so much happiness into my life. They know exactly how to encourage me and have helped me rediscover who I am whenever I feel lost.
