Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Rowley.
Hi Jon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started in a garage in Prairie Village, now only 400 yards from our 15,000 sq/ft facility, which we occupy today. We started with a group of ladies (my mother-in-law and her friends) walking together daily, so I convinced them to ‘stretch with me.’ Next thing you know, they’re doing deadlifts and burpees and somehow enjoyed it enough to tell their friends. We kept providing a positive experience to one person at a time with the marketing strategy of crossing our fingers. We kicked ourselves out of the garage after a year, signed a short-term commercial lease, and moved to a 2,400 sq/ft space on 75th and Metcalf. Then we got a bit out over our skis and signed a lease for a 7,000 sq/ft building in the heart of Prairie Village (the old post office). With a little more space and gratefully more people, we’ve expanded our offerings over the years, are proud to have a fantastic team of professionals, and now have a fully outfitted facility with everything from Yoga to Boxing, CrossFit, and everything in between.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This all depends on who you ask. If you ask my wife Britni, she’ll tell the truth. It’s been tough, as is running any business. Since I’m lucky to be on the ground daily, it’s easier to see smiling faces getting results and hear one success story after another. Seeing the impact, we can create the hard work and 4 am wake-ups all the easier. When people compliment where we are, I call out that pretty good thing can happen if you get up in the 4:00s, have an amazing support system, and work your butt off for 10 years!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about 2020FIT?
We provide a great workout, sure. But what we’re most proud of and what I hear most consistently as feedback is, “everyone here is so nice and welcoming.” Whether it’s your first day or you’ve been with us for ten years, we know everyone struggles with life from time to time, so we want to give our clients at least an hour of the day where they can focus on what is most neglected in their lives, themselves! Working out and getting in shape is hard enough, so we remove one of the barriers by being welcoming to everyone we get to work with.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Staying positive and always putting your best energy forward. That all said – none of this gets to happen without the support of my wife, Britni. For the first ten years of the business, she supported us at home (read: was the primary breadwinner), so we could focus on investing in the business and the team of people that make it possible. Apart from our literal angel investor, the key characteristic is providing a positive place that is an outlet for our clients to help them live healthy lives.
Pricing:
- We are not your typical gym, so when people hear our prices, they have one of two reactions. 1) they run for the hills, or 2) they recognize that there is no more important investment you can ever make than your health.
- And we’re accountable for helping you be your best, which comes at an investment of between $165-$215 per month, depending on your age and occupation.
- We don’t sell gym memberships; we sell training plans.
- And with that, we expect our clients to show up, or we will hunt them down, encourage them, and do whatever it takes to get them back in the doors.
