Meet Say That Again Band of Waldo: Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Say That Again Band.

Hello, Say That Again; so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The band formed in late 2019 when Trecen Peeler (bass) and Carlos Nunez (lead guitar) were living together post-graduation from college. Carlos Invited Will Kuenne (vocals & guitar) to come over and jam, and they could tell there was something there. A week later, Will invited Vinnie Cascone (drums) to join the jam, and the lineup was cemented. Forming a band right before a global pandemic hit was both a blessing and a curse for the group because we couldn’t meet in person, but it gave us plenty to write about. As restrictions increased, we started practicing together again and recording what would become the “Flying Cars” Ep. In October of 2021, we started playing live and have been working on honing our live show and overall sound since. In the last year, we’ve played all over Kansas City, released a music video, played on the radio, and started working on a full-length album.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Besides the pandemic slowing down our initial pace, things have gone well for us. Our biggest challenge is that we’re all busy individuals! Vinnie and Will were still in undergrad for most of the time. We’ve been in a band, and Carlos was in grad school for the first year, so scheduling practices, recording sessions, and shows can be challenging. Luckily we’re all committed to the band and have a lot of fun making music together, so we prioritize the band as much as possible.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our music primarily has alternative, indie, pop, and rock influences. What’s great is that we all listen to different genres of music than each other so that we can pull from many different styles. We’re most proud of our improvement as a band. Comparing our sound, recording quality, live shows, etc., we’ve come a long way. That’s an important metric for us because we do everything ourselves. The growth is apparent when you listen to our first-ever single, “Say,” and our latest single, “Inside Out.” We’re the same band, but it sounds more cohesive and like something you’d hear on the radio.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The Kansas City music scene has always had amazing groups and individuals. Still, as the city gains more national recognition, we hope to see an even bigger boom of KC musicians and groups making their mark on a much broader scale. There is a Kansas City sound as far as we’re concerned, especially in the Indie genre, so hopefully, we can be a part of what shapes that definition.
