Meet Meagan Leahy of Leahy Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Leahy.

Hi Meagan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I went to chiropractic school, I was truly an anomaly. My classmates were mostly second or third-generation chiropractors or had their lives changed by a chiropractic adjustment. I was a pre-PT major, not confident that was what I wanted to do when a voice told me “chiropractic.” I mentioned it to my new roommate, who happened to have 4 family members that were chiropractors. The next thing I knew, I was enrolled at Palmer Chiropractic, having yet to learn what a chiropractor did and having never been adjusted! My first class was Chiropractic Philosophy, and I was sold. I had no idea other people thought similarly about health and wellness. 20 years later, I appreciate that even though I have expanded my chiropractic care with specializations, that core foundational philosophy remains the same. My job is to understand the body’s function and support its optimal function through the proper nervous system function!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Like most businesses, there have been a few ups and downs. I opened my clinic in April 2008, aka the year of the “bubble” collapse. It was a scary time to be self-employed with no guaranteed income. Covid was challenging, although I am grateful I had been in practice for over 12 years by that point. There have been learning curves that come with the territory-most doctors get into practice to help people but then find themselves wearing many unexpected “business” hats. However, overall it’s been an incredible journey without major bumps.

Great, so let’s talk about your work. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
After 15 years in the Kansas City area, you would think I would know my niche. However, I love to learn and like challenges, so my practice is eclectic. The main technique (style) I am known for is Chiropractic BioPhysics or CBP. It is a specific program that seeks to restore the structure and posture of the spine. We take pre and post-x-rays of our patients to show them the differences we are making. This leads me to learn scoliosis bracing as well. I am certified in pediatric and prenatal care. I have spent the last 6 years adding to that certification by working on a diplomate in developmental neurobiology, which is a fancy way of saying. I want to know how to help people function optimally by understanding how the body works, from the cells to the whole system!

Alright, before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
I love having a network of other professionals that share my vision of optimal health and wellness. I am very blessed to have OBGYNs, for example, that refers to my office. I have a local football coach that I love because he and I share the goal of helping the players not only during their time playing/injury prevention, but we both want to avoid them “paying for their sports’ in their 30s with pain and problems. I’m always looking for other professionals with a similar mindset. For patients interested in our care, our staff will answer any questions or concerns you have about your care and our services before care. Our website is also chock full of information.
