Today we’d like to introduce you to LeekBITE.
Hi LeekBITE, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was introduced to writing & recording music at around 9 years old; when I was 11-13, I recorded on 2 cell phones. After that, I used a USB microphone from my DJ Hero Game on the Xbox using Audacity, Mixcraft, and FL Studio, low-grade recording programs. When I finally started recording in a professional studio, I was around 16 years old, and people like Young Thug & Migos from Atlanta inspired me. Before that, I was also heavily inspired by the Chicago Drill scene (Chief Keef, Lil Durk, FBG Duck, etc.) & I had my own recording equipment that I bought from Guitar Center. In between, I was perfecting my craft & building myself Spiritually.
In 2019 I released a song named “Pish Posh” that collectively did over 50k streams & 20k+ views on the YouTube video. By the end of Feb 2020, I had ranked in the top 500k artists in the world, and by Dec. 2020, I was ranking in the top 100k in the world according to Chartmetric. My song “Pish Posh” was posted by popular hip hop blog MyMixtapes. By this time, I was collecting small checks from music every once & in a while, & the song brought me a small amount of attention, which inspired me to take my music a little more seriously. In June of 2020, I released a single named “Back Up” with a feature from a Kansas Hip Hop artist named Luxx Dwave. In December 2020, I released a 3 song EP called “3Much”. During 2021 & 2022 I took a break to learn more about business and how to leverage myself & recreate myself as an artist.
In 2022 I released only 2 of my songs; Like I said before, 2022 has been a part of my break aside from a few shows and features I have done. In 2022 I released a single called “The Race,” which gained popularity for the catchy hook & black air force vibes; I’ve had a Billboard charting producer named OVRCZ (Pronounced Overseas) tell me my music “has Chicago vibes and sounds like King Von” on his live stream. The second song I released in 2022 was dropped on December 30th. It’s called “Run It Up,” & the song has a feature from Ted Park, who is a Korean American Hip Hop/Rap Artist. This was my first BIG industry-type feature, but it all came from good energy being shared amongst 2 great artists. This song has gained me more attention than any song I’ve released before it, & it is the leading single I have on my Project, “No Love Lost,” set to release on Valentine’s Day 2023. So far, it has been an independent grind. I have built a solid team to help bring the vision alive, and from 2023 beyond, it’s all gas, no brakes. I have alot in store, from Music Videos to Live Performances. I am an Artist & Entrepreneur.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
I would say the journey has been smooth but one thing I have struggled with is letting outside influences control me (meaningless relationships, fake friends, and fear). There’s been plenty of times when I needed to be more consistently focused on creating, releasing, and spreading my music or the growth of my career. Figuring out the business side of music was a challenge but nothing that I couldn’t conquer. As an independent artist, I preach that business is the first thing you should focus on if you want to make a career independently in the music industry. Gaining a supportive fanbase in the city I am from has been a struggle, but I always have focused on just my music and figured the world would catch on before the people closest. I feel like where I am from, they like to watch violence, so they focus on what’s called “Fonk Music,” & that’s not the lane I’m in.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Hip Hop/Rap artist. My music is known for its energetic beats and catchy hooks; I feel I am great at delivering verses with meaningful lyrics, precision and flow. I am known for my hustle and nonquitting attitude toward my goals. I am proud of myself and that through times of adversity, I have not given up and have always seemed to reach new heights. What sets me apart from others is the energy I bring, my spirituality & the fact that I want to see everyone, including those who don’t like me, win.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Never stop, keep striving for your goals no matter who tells you not to. Don’t have fear, & if you do, work hard to overcome them. Success is on the other side of failure, so keep going. Take Risks. & Never underestimate your opponent, Don’t trust easily, and Don’t trust many.
