Check Out Stacy Krieg’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Krieg.

Hi Stacy. We’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I worked as an HR Director in a corporate setting for nearly 20 years. In 2011 I had a medical issue that caused me to quit working. At that time, I decided to pursue my creative passion – art! I dabbled originally in many different styles and art techniques – everything from acrylic, pastels, oil paint, and markers to even encaustic (painting with beeswax). It was fun playing around with many tools – trying to find my longer-term style. In the end, I landed on oil paint. I was fortunate to train under a Russian master artist, Slava Korolenkov, who taught me all things oil. Oil paintings last forever and are just so luscious -both in color and style.

It is hard to believe that, as of today, I have been painting for over 10 years and selling my work for most of that time. I sell my work mostly online on my website and at a few art fairs every year. I love doing art fairs. They are a lot of work – but I enjoy chatting with my clients in person and meeting new people. Some people have collected my work the entire time and have filled their homes with my pieces. That makes me so happy. I love creating original works of art that people can enjoy forever. I have recently added the ability to create prints on my website, allowing more people to own my work.

My art is modern, contemporary semi-abstract. I enjoy creating work with a subject that is painted abstractly. That keeps things fresh and interesting. I want to paint flowers, people, and landscapes. I have also recently added a new service for my clients called Design & Style. I work with my clients to lightly renovate a room and feature a piece of my art. I offer free advice on room placement and how to feature the artwork best. I love working with people in this way. I have a good eye for home design and love giving a fresh perspective on decorating. On the table for 2023, I am also working on a series for my hometown – Kansas City. I have already painted a few pieces and plan to add more to my collection shortly. KC folks love to show hometown spirit, and since I have lived here for so long (since 1997) – I decided that it is time to show my KC style. You can find my work on my website, www.stacykrieg.com or Instagram @stacykriegart.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Art is a challenging job in many ways. Art fairs are difficult to get into and physically taxing. Art is also challenging to make a living wage because many artists are creatives and may lack studying business skills. I am fortunate in that way, however, because I have my masters in business. I also want to prove to myself that people can make a living in art, so I work diligently to do so. Much of that process involves marketing myself – a very challenging skill for me – as I only enjoy a little attention on myself. But I had to get over that hurdle and do it. I spend a lot of time marketing my work now, which has helped a lot.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in contemporary, modern semi-abstract oil paintings. I love to take subjects and obscure them to make them less realistic. That creates more interest and keeps a painting fresh. I am known for my colorful paintings. If you can keep a room simple – whites and neutrals – and then add a pop of color with a painting – the room becomes so dynamic and fun. I am set apart from others because of my business background and diligence in making my art career a full-time job. People should own original art that speaks directly to their hearts. I work very hard to make my clients happy.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising about me is that I grew up in New York – close to the city. It was so exciting to live there. That is where I gained perspective on culture and diversity – which has stuck with me ever since.
