Hidden Gems: Meet Addie Gutierrez of AddieG.Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Addie Gutierrez.

Hi Addie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Addie Gutierrez, a full-time photographer, wife, and mom of 3 amazing kids. As a mother, I want to hold on to every minute of daily interaction with my children. You wish you could freeze time, so they don’t grow up so fast. This is what got me started with photography. I began as a mother with a nice camera, capturing pictures of her growing children. Family and friends soon asked me to do the same for them. Before I knew it, I was getting paid to preserve precious moments for families, from family photos to weddings. I knew that photography was something that I loved. I knew it was something I was good at. After a few years, I gained clientele and pursued my dream of owning a business. I have now captured countless family photos and have traveled around the state of Kansas, and the country, to photograph weddings.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
The biggest obstacle I faced starting my business was setting myself apart from other photographers. I live in a small community with many great photographers to choose from. I often compared myself to those photographers and got frustrated when they were getting more business than I was. After some time, I was able to get past that. I stopped comparing myself to other photographers and focused on what set me apart. I worked on my editing style, delivery, and photo quality. I learned how to get creative and offer clients photos they can’t get anywhere else. When I did that, I saw my business grow.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
It is hard to find time for reading between running my business and being a mother of 3, but I love putting on a True Crime Podcast while I edit photos.
