Check Out Vicky Sparks’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicky Sparks.

Hi Vicky, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My husband, Lance, and I have always been sports and fitness enthusiasts. Over the years, we enjoyed supporting our children who participated in a wide range of activities including soccer, dance, and basketball growing up.

Ultimately, it was the quote “Inspire others by what inspires you” that led me to Eat The Frog Fitness. This is a passion project. Health and wellness have forever been priorities in our lives along with helping others achieve their goals. When I discovered Eat The Frog Fitness, everything about it aligned with our goals of personalizing the group fitness experience and making it simple for individuals to accomplish their goals. Life is hard and fitness is often one of those difficult tasks for people to tackle. The 24/7 small group fitness studio that incorporates both live and digitally coached sessions inside an immersive environment complete with 2 iMax style screens and heart rate monitors provides the perfect setting to achieve those goals. It’s effective, scientifically based, and most of all FUN!

Even better was the fact that our daughter, Erin, had just graduated with a Masters in Kinesiology and had experience working in group fitness. Hence, Erin is the Overland Park Studio Manager. She shared that her sister, Sophie (also a Kinesiology major), had told her Eat the Frog Fitness had a location in Manhattan, Kansas. Erin and I made a trip to Manhattan to check it out and were even more excited after experiencing a workout. We could not wait to bring Eat The Frog Fitness to Kansas City!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have several years of business experience, however; commercial real estate was completely new. We really had no idea the time it would take to identify and secure the right location.

We were fortunate to have tremendous support from our real estate broker, who provided direction in helping us locate a site that fit our size requirements and demographics. Eat The Frog Fitness is about building a community so it was important that we identified a location in a densely populated area that would have high visibility, and traffic, and be easily accessible to our members.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I mentioned earlier that this is a passion project. Family is huge for me and my husband. We have experienced challenges over the years with the health of our parents and recognize the importance of making our own health a priority so we can enjoy time with our family for many years to come.

We are a blended family and like every other parent, we are fierce about building a sense of oneness, purpose, and priority for us and our children. I believe we all have a responsibility to use our strengths to make a contribution to the world. Eat The Frog Fitness is focused on making a contribution to the fitness of others and having a positive impact on our members and the community.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was the middle child and the only girl. Yes, that probably explains a lot about my personality. I grew up in a small town in Iowa where I was fortunate enough to participate in everything. I was always competitive and very involved in school sports and outside activities.

Having a job as a teenager was expected, which probably gave me my work ethic and belief that “if it is to be, it’s up to me.” My first job was walking beans, which you only know what that is if you grew up in a small farming community! Later in high school, I worked at a local gym, and then in college taught aerobics at The University of Kansas to both students and faculty.
