Today we’d like to introduce you to Trinity Marcum.
Hi Trinity, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Growing up I loved taking pictures – I remember taking a photography class in summer school and running around my grandparent’s backyard snapping pictures of flowers and things that caught my eye. In 5th grade, I received my first point-and-shoot camera as a gift and I took it everywhere with me.
I discovered my love for capturing portraits when I was just 17 years old. I had enrolled in an AP Arts class in high school and had originally planned on studying graphic design but my instructor encouraged me to dive deeper into my photography journey. I was usually taking pictures of nature and landscapes but my teacher encouraged me to try something new and I am SO glad I took his advice!
With my newfound interest in portraiture, I had the opportunity to work alongside my mentor, Rebecca Friend Sharp (former owner of Sharp Images Photography). Once I really nailed posing and found my style, I started shooting independently. My photography professor in college, Gary, was a very influential part of my journey. He saw the love I had for photography and has spent so much time helping me grow & sharing resources to help my business.
I am so thankful for the opportunities that have come my way along this journey. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of my teachers, mentors, friends/family, and clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It took a lot of courage to start this career full-time while facing so many unknowns.
Being a young business owner with no idea where to start, I think the idea shocked my family a bit but they have been so supportive. I let my passion guide me and used every resource & piece of advice along the way from the many talented mentors I have gained.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Trinity M. Photography, LLC.?
I’m a photographer based in Kansas City, Missouri, specializing in all types of portraiture (Families, seniors, children, etc). My home studio (Northlight Photo Studio) is located in KC just minutes from the city market.
My main focus is capturing my client’s authenticity and letting their personalities shine through my work. When you hire me, you don’t just have a photographer-you have a new friend. Many of my clients have been working with me from the start of my journey 5 years ago. I have loved growing with each of them and capturing every milestone along the way.
I was voted & named “Best Photographer in Eastern Jackson County” by the Examiner in 2021.
What’s next?
I plan to continue capturing portraits for my clients and offer commercial photography services in the near future.
I hope to have my own studio sometime in the future and to offer mentorships to other artists as so many have for me.
