Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyanne Myers.
Hi Cheyanne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started customizing shoes in 2014. I was always a sneakerhead. But seeing art on shoes left me amazed. The first artist I saw creating customs was Mache and he is still my idol. I first studied shoe customization and was in awe of its art of it in 2012.
I was a little over a year out of the Army trying to figure out what my next career was going to be. I was in college but too nervous to buy what I needed for painting shoes. My wife brought me my first paint set in April 2014. I treated it as a hobby at first but the older I’ve got and how my talent has grown I have taken it more seriously. To where I want to make a career of it and expand my brand.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has been rocky. I’ll start with I didn’t know anything about running a business and I had to learn things on the fly. Which I am still doing. I looked at this as a hobby I was toying with the idea of making it bigger.
But when Covid stopped the world I really buckled down and told myself to give it all to CustomsByChi if I really want to be my own boss and create on my time. But just learning about taxes, grants, loans, social media engagements, and investing in my business has been very rocky. In the past 8 years, I can count on one hand how many customers I didn’t make happy thankfully.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I customize shoes. I am most proud of seeing how happy people be when they receive their shoes or see them in public their shoes on.
What sets me apart from others is that I make sure I give out the best quality of work, I make sure my customers are as satisfied as possible, and if your shoe is a 1 of 1 it will be a 1 of 1 custom!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Creativity, a good listener, passionate & a lifelong learner. Creativity is important because I’m an artist and I create art
A good listener because I have customers who have orders that need to be filled. Passionate because it is the driving force to keep me creating. Life long learner because the world changes, art changes and we grow in different ways where we change as life goes on.
