Hidden Gems: Meet Olivia Langford of Olivia Renee Wedding Videography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Langford.

Hi Olivia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love for video started when I was eight years old. My friends and I used to make fun movies and music videos. When I started college, I was still figuring out what I wanted to do. While I completed my associates, I toured colleges and landed at Northwest Missouri State University. This is where my love for all things media began and my videography journey. I filmed a few weddings in college but never considered it a career. I later transferred to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where I received my Bachelor’s in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Journalism in 2019. But when 2020 came around with the Covid shutdowns, I lost my job. After I had gone through the motions and talked with my (then) boyfriend Quinn, my parents, and my friends, I decided to go out on a limb and start my own business. I began booking for 2021 and what was left of 2020. Slowly, the ball started rolling. By March 2021, I was reserved for the year and had already received 2022 inquiries. In January 2022, I officially became Olivia Renee Wedding Videography LLC.

Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was scary putting my work and myself out there for everyone to see. I created a Facebook business page and Instagram and joined a few Kansas City Wedding Vendor groups to market myself. I had yet to determine if others would enjoy my work, let alone want to pay for it. But after I started receiving inquiries and bookings, I knew I had made the right decision to start my business. And while the last two years have been an adventure, it has sometimes been challenging. This job comes with the constant communication, late nights, and headaches from editing for too long; I’ve encountered many people who did not take me seriously as a business owner and professional due to my age. But despite the challenges, it has all been worth it.

We’ve been impressed with Olivia Renee Wedding Videography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Olivia Renee Wedding Videography captures couples wedding days on film to create the beautiful story of their love. We specialize in a “fly on the wall” kind of style. We do minimal posing and queuing. We want to tell the story of your wedding day and how it was. A few things that set us apart from other wedding videographers are:

1. We offer a “ceremony only” package.
2. We offer customizable packages.
3. Couples not only receive a highlight film, but (depending on the package) they receive a full-length film that includes the entire ceremony, toasts, and almost every element from the day.
4. We give couples all of the raw footage from their wedding day.

Because every couple should have some video from their wedding day, I am a strong Christian, and when I started this business, I knew I couldn’t only focus on the money. It’s about the people I’m serving. And while we have so much to offer, we purposely keep our prices lower than the majority of videographers in Kansas City.

What quality or characteristic is most important to your success?
I could only accomplish as much as I do with my God-given gifts of leadership, organization, and focus under pressure. I always think outside the box and will keep going no matter what.
