Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Mowry.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
A month ago, we had to put our beloved pup down, and it was quite the process of letting him go, but it was so incredibly peaceful to know he wasn’t hurting anymore. While at dinner with my mother, we talked about Atticus (the pup), and she brought up the time we had to put our family dog (Chopper) down. My dad was on business out of town, and Chopper had gone downhill quickly. He woke up one morning and couldn’t walk. My mom knew that she would have to put him down that day but was struggling with how she would get him to the vet. Chopper was a 70-pound dog; my mother couldn’t pick him up. I was in college at the time and left my sociology class to help my mother with this heartbreaking task. I loaded Chopper into the car and rode to the vet with my mom. When we arrived, she broke down and couldn’t even watch, but I held him the entire time so he wouldn’t be alone. My mom commented that she wouldn’t have been able to go through that emotionally or physically if I hadn’t been there. That’s when we had the idea for Rainbow Bridge Pet Services of Kansas City.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I just started this business about 2 weeks ago. I’ve made business cards and am working on pamphlets for all the vet offices. Word has gotten around, and I’ve had a couple of people call me about my services, but they were looking for someone who could come to their home and euthanize their pets, which I do not provide.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a degree in fine arts with an emphasis in sociology. I have always been compassionate, working closely with people, whether caring for patients in the cardiologist’s office, pet-sitting, or nannying my kiddos (which has been my career for the past 11 years.) I have always found that I have a deep connection to children and animals; I can tap into that innocence they possess.
Alright, before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
Word of mouth is always helpful in getting a business on its feet. And with the sensitivity of my services. I need to build trust with my clients and my community. I would love to create a relationship with Kansas City’s surrounding veterinary offices, pet shelters, and adoption centers. Moving forward with the business, I also want to be able to help families make room in their hearts for a new pet.
