Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirt Rithmixay.
Hi Kirt, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At 16, I knew I wanted to become a manicurist. I was highly influenced by a family member that was a manicurist at the time. Shortly after I graduated high school, I enrolled in a manicurist technician program at Johnson County Community College.
After becoming a licensed manicurist, I received an opportunity to work in a salon in Prairie Village, where I worked for a little over seven years. For the first 4 years of my career, I remained a technician; then, I earned my way to management. In the last 3 years of my management position at the salon in Prairie Village, I developed a sense of entrepreneurship. I decided to work at two other salons after Prairie Village to gain experience in a different location and clientele.
My wife and I came across a great location for a salon in Overland Park. We loved the space and location, which were newly developed. While allocating funds for the new business, we decided to take advantage of the rising housing market and sell the newly renovated house we acquired before the pandemic.
Five months after signing our lease agreement for the salon, we were finally able to start construction. While construction was stressful and time-consuming, we were able to complete the salon after 7 months. We have been open for four months now, and business is doing well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Not. We had to deal with supply chain issues, rising construction material prices, and COVID, all while getting ready to welcome our first baby.
