Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Zuercher.
Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have been a lover of all things makeup for as long as I can remember. I’ve been here for everything from blue eyeshadow to winged liner. I started professionally doing makeup at 19 years old. I started working for an Aveda Salon at the front desk and gradually was pulled into doing makeup full-time there. This is when I indeed found my passion, the thought of coming to work and playing around with makeup and people leaving my chair feeling and looking their best. I mean, it couldn’t get any better. From there, I auditioned and became an AFA (Aveda Freelance Advisor). I would travel to various Aveda salons and apply their makeup/ sell makeup. I was then offered a job with Estee Lauder but turned it down and moved on from Aveda and all of their lovely products to go and coordinate a Spa in downtown Westport. Here, I learned the ins and outs of managing people while still doing what I loved, “Makeup” on the side. From there, I found the perfect of all perfect jobs for me. The Posh KC. The foot traffic of makeup and hair clients was what I wanted/ needed. I was hungry for makeup, and when I got this job, boy was I in full swing of being an MUA. I spent almost 6 years with The posh KC. I became the manager, one of their first bridal specialists, known for my skill. I recently left my beloved home at The Posh KC and started my own Soft Glow Studio business.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing is ever easy. Everything you want in life is out of your comfort zone. I am fortunate enough to have 10 years of professional experience under my belt, so starting something on my own, I truly understand the ins & outs of what I do and why I love what I do. Leaving Posh was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I was given clients, surrounded by people whose love for makeup was just as strong as mine, and worked alongside one of the most incredible bosses/friends a girl could ask for. So saying goodbye was hard, but I needed it to grow my own business and become my boss.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional Makeup artist here in KC. I truly love what I do. My style of makeup is more natural. Don’t get me wrong, I love a little Glam too, but I truly believe that enhancing your natural beauty and making someone love the skin they are in is where my passion lies. I am known for wedding makeup and have won Best Wedding MUA in KC in 2020. I also have some published editorial work. I would say each MUA has its flare and how they do things. I think I am an overachiever and go the extra mile for my clients. In the wedding world, the bride always needs one less thing to stress about, and I make sure she is stress-free about makeup and ready to hop in my chair, knowing she’s in good hands.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
When I’m not making someone feel beautiful on their big day or working with clients, I’m busy helping my husband with his business RL Property Company as their Guest Experience Director. Working with photographers on editorial shoots and being a wife and step mum to 3 wonderful kids.
