Conversations with Tim O’Connor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim O’Connor. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Tim O’Connor’s humble beginnings as an artist began as a color press operator in 2002. He learned to appreciate the fine art of color reproduction and image creation there. Like most artists, passion and finance don’t always overlap, so he pursued technology, and art was put on the back burner.

The proverbial stars would re-align, and an ongoing work assignment at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts rejuvenated his passion through its beautiful architecture. The surplus of views and photo opportunities became the deciding factor in purchasing a camera in 2017.

A chance exploration of an abandoned warehouse triggered an obsession with the incredible colors, textures, and rich histories of these dilapidated buildings. The thrill of capturing these lesser-seen artistic elements frequently leads to many adventures with a camera in hand.

Along with abandonment, he has an eye for the everyday situation in the form of street photography. His work evokes beauty from these urban settings, a touch gritty, a bit candid, yet always from the soul. Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The ever-constant challenge is balance. Balancing a son, a partner, a social life, and a day job while trying to create art is no small feat. Putting quality over quantity has been the approach to combat that, but the pursuit never ends.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I aim to capture moments. Whether that been those unseen or lesser known moments or capturing a fleeting feeling in time.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is obtaining maximum joy and peace while supporting those around you to do the same.
