Today we’d like to introduce you to Blister Soul. They share their story with us below:
Blister Soul is a four-piece rock & roll band from Joplin, Missouri. The current lineup was formed in the summer of 2017 and includes Greg Ballew on rhythm guitar/lead vocals.
Jason Otero on lead guitar/background vocals, Bryan Bridgford on bass, and Tony Otero on drums. Mutually inspired by Drive-By Truckers, Vigilantes of Love, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Starflyer 59, the band’s guitar-driven songs explore difficult themes of racial violence, school shootings, and loss of loved ones.
The band released their debut EP, Sign of the Times, on June 18, 2021. The self-produced 4-song EP was mixed by Thom Daugherty (The Elms, The Band Perry) and mastered by Dan Shike (The Lumineers, Third Eye Blind).
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We’ve all got full-time jobs, we’re all married, and most of us have kids.
Shows are pretty rare, and touring is never going to happen, which makes growing a fan base pretty difficult. We’re in it because we love the process and like the music that we make.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We’re a rock band that pulls a range of influences from classic rock, blues, shoegaze, and alternative. We do almost everything ourselves, including recording and producing our songs.
As far as being set apart from others, I’d say that we’re still regularly making music in our mid/late 30s as opposed to our early 20s.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Honestly, it’s surprising to us when anyone listens to our music. We like it, and we’re confident in our ability, but with so many options, someone finding us and choosing to listen to a song all the way through is pretty rare.
Much less coming to a live show. We don’t take any of that for granted.
