Meet Anna Capra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Capra.

Hi Anna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’ve been a hairstylist for 5 years now.

Went to hair school in Manhattan, KS. And moved up to Kansas City the day I graduated. I’ve been a commission stylist working under different mentors and salons while being in Kansas City, and truly just finding out who I am. Then not long ago, I got a phone call from one of my best friends.

She told me she found a space and wanted to open up a salon. At this point in my life, I was a commissioned-based hairstylist, taking home a paycheck bi-weekly. So switching over to become an independent stylist was a huge deal. I sat on this decision for 30 minutes.

That’s how long it took me to finally call her back and tell her I was in. I wanted to make the jump from a commission stylist to an independent stylist. I’m 5 weeks into running my own business and killing it as an independent stylist while working alongside all my best friends.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it was a smooth road. I got handed everything I needed in a commission-based industry, and I didn’t need to think twice about it.

It got to a point in my career, that I knew something needed to change or I was going to get burnt out. And I’m not even kidding, that’s when the phone rang

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist down in the west bottoms, I’m known as Anna, but on Instagram, you’ll find me under Capra Colors.

If you get the chance to sit in my chair, chances are you’re going to be chatting all about dogs, food, and my love for blonding. In case my last name didn’t give it away, my favorite food is always pasta. I specialize in major blonding work while maintaining the integrity of my client’s hair.

I’m most known for making my clients feel real, feel understood, and letting them know, that drinks are on me during the appointment. If I could blonde everyone in Kansas City, I would. I’m obsessed with the techniques and the beautiful grow-out it gives.

What does success mean to you?
Happiness. It took me 5 years to find out who I was in this industry, and what sets me apart from other stylists in the city… and it was being me.

Surrounding yourself with your best friends while you work is rare, and I am now living that life.
