Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Vega.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been into art since a young age. My grandfather use to send me portraits and other stuff he would draw and it would motivate me to be that good one day. Some years later and after a few bad decisions. I ended up in JDC and by that time I had put art to the side.
As life slowed down, I was able to finish school and pick my hobby of art back up. I had a few people notice my skills at drawing and actually went out of their way to help. My little brother was one of them who took notice and kept pushing me to do the tattoo.
At that time, I didn’t have any confidence in myself to do tattoos. By the time I got out, he had gotten me my first starter tattoo set. Even after I told him I wasn’t interested, years later and a ton of hours it’s still something I love to do.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Trying to find someone to do your apprenticeship is harder than it looks. Especially, how you get treated at some places in the beginning and still have to pay for everything.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a tattoo artist and a business owner of MidWest Arts, LLC. I specialize in black and gray realism and color tattoos. The past weekend we went to the KC, MO tattoo convention and took 4 awards home.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
