Check Out Caitlin Campbell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Campbell.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband and I have always loved Rocheport. It is such a unique town with much to offer, even though it is quite small. We wanted to bring a retail store that filled a gap in the market, a store that included men in its clientele. Our store has much to offer both men and women: home goods, textiles, antiques, barware, men’s accessories, ladies’ handbags, candles, cigars, and cigar accessories. Come for the day-enjoy what our town offers, including excellent dining, events, bed and breakfasts, the Katy Trail, and more!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The idea of running a retail shop had always been a hypothetical for us-when a friend of ours approached us one day saying that she had a space coming open and that she thought we’d be great for the town, we jumped right in! We had only weeks to source items (and shelving/displays to put them on) before one of the season’s biggest events. Caitlin was still working full-time at her day job and running an interior design company and a candle company, so stress was high. With the help of family, we got things put together just in time and have been growing our inventory ever since!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Running a retail shop is something I never thought I’d do. I’ve always loved decorating (and have my own interior decorating/design business). I’m not someone who considers myself a “salesperson,” I just love finding unique items that people can get excited about. I love it when a customer comes in and finds their own “treasure” that they will have in their own homes for years to come. Our shop is man-friendly in that we offer men’s accessories, barware, cigars, etc., but we also carry antiques and home décor. One of our bestsellers is our very own candle line, “Southern Gent Candles,” which my husband and I worked a couple of years to create. We will soon come to Southern Provisions with our handmade pillows, using high-quality fabrics! Stay tuned, and we have all sorts of “dreams” we’re working on!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I worked in the Hospice industry for about 10 years, and it taught me many things, including that life is short. I quit my job to pursue Southern Provisions, taking a substantial financial risk. I put my whole self into it daily and can’t wait to see where it takes us and how our community will continue to grow. You aren’t guaranteed tomorrow, so make the best of today.
