Hidden Gems: Meet Malika Hamilton of Bare Beauty Essentials

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malika Hamilton.

Hi Malika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
So, I have always had pretty decent skin, maybe a breakout here or there, but my car had broke down on summer and I had to use someone’s car and it was so dirty that my face went into a shock and broke out so bad into tiny bumps and it burned so bad and I tried everything to clear it up by myself. One day, I went into Sephora, met a wonderful esthetician by the name of Keisha Cubie and she gave me a mini facial in Sephora and gave me samples to take home and in days, my skin was doing really good and as it took weeks and months to get my skin back to normal. I appreciated the skin journey and it made me fall in love with skin and gaining back your confidence. I’ve never been an insecure person, but having a face full of acne can definitely make your confidence go down and putting makeup over it doesn’t make it any better.

So, I really fell in love with that journey and it made me want to help others and make them feel beautiful again. I tried so many other things being the creative person that I am, from jewelry, making clothes, event planning, having a blog, creative directing photoshoots for my blog….but nothing really felt as pleasing as being able to help people feel good about themselves and confident like being an esthetician. So, I was probably at my lowest when I decided to go to esthetics school. I didn’t know what I wanted to do anymore. I kept holding it off. Putting others before myself and I was like 2020, I am going to do something for me so I impulsively signed up for school after I felt like someone doubted me and boom, there I was in school in January of 2020, lol. I’ve been in business officially for almost two years and as it has been a learning experience. I have met some very wonderful clients who I love so dearly. I am in the process of launching my official website and adding new services.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road at all lol. I am very fortunate to have people around me who give me pointers and tips on what to do and not to do. Really everything has been a struggle, lol. I love to perfect everything. Every aspect of everything in my career I want to perfect it so everything has been a struggle, but I am now able to balance a lot of things on my business side so that makes the struggles less of a struggle. I want my business to be stable, very solid foundation that can’t be broken so that was really my struggle…building a solid foundation.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bare Beauty Essentials. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am the owner of Bare Beauty Essentials and we specialize in full body waxing, facials, and body treatments. I am known for my Brazilian waxes because I get all of the hair, lol. My clients hate how much of a perfectionist I am, lol.

My most popular service is the Brazilian wax, vagina slays bundle (a vajacial and Brazilian wax), and my customized facial which is customized to your skin type and concerns.

I also do a yearly women’s drive for Women’s History Month with women’s shelters here in KCMO providing them with things that they are in need of. Also, selling items to my audience specifically for Women’s History Month and using all the proceeds towards whatever items the women are in need of.

I am very proud of my growth as a business owner. It is not easy being a business owner at all. I’m still learning stuff everyday!

What sets me apart from others? I’m not sure because I don’t pay attention to others, lol.

I do everything with and out of love. I value my clients and take pride in customer service and making my clients happy and feeling appreciated.

I focus on results but also taking time and patience with every service that I perform.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was very quiet and observant.

I still am, but I’m more talkative now that I have a business. It comes natural now…people used to have to force me to talk and I would only talk to people that I knew, lol. I’ve always had people natural drawn to me and I’ve always been a leader and very influential.

I’ve always been interested in anything with arts and crafts, fashion/dressing up, and just always being extra with everything that I do.

(Example: if it’s a pair of sunglasses, it has to be the biggest sunglasses, covered in fur or something, lol.)

I express myself through the things that I wear and the things that I create because honestly, my personality isn’t for everyone …it’s very bold once I warm up to you. Nonetheless, I’m still a very shy person, lol.
