Rising Stars: Meet James Togbah

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Togbah.

Hi James, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in Africa, Liberia, I always had the passion for soccer. My first goal was to be a professional soccer player, having achieved that my next goal is to leave an impact on the sport off the field. That is how I turn to innovate soccer equipment. Starting with my Ball Bag Plus. The idea came one summer where I was struggling to carry all my training gear after a training session. I had regular ball bag, a backpack and still had my hands full. When I got to my car, I sat down and started drawing ideas out and that was the birth of the Ball Bag Plus. Now you can carry all your training equipment in one bag without a backpack and in a bag that is also water repellent. Ball Bag Plus is just the stepping stone for other products I have designed that’s not on the market yet.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Noooo, far from smooth. Almost six years of doing it still not smooth but occasionally, I enjoy the difficult road because it prepares me for what’s ahead. For me legal work, patent, trademark, business registration, prototypes, financials, etc just a few of the struggles.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a professional soccer player (KC comets), soccer coach, entrepreneur/ inventor of the Ball Bag Plus. I’m more proud of how far I have come because where I am from most people dream to live my life for just a day. But I get to do it every day. I set goals and don’t look away until I achieve them.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Fav childhood memory was playing soccer barefoot in the streets and beaches. Got my first pair of cleats at 13 when I moved to the US but I always cherish those moments when I couldn’t afford it because when I finally could afford it, I wanted to work twice as hard.
