Daily Inspiration: Meet Hannah Kathleen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Kathleen.

Hi Hannah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have been cosplaying for almost 6 years now and modeling for almost 5 years.

I had always been interested in cosplay but never knew how to get into it. I met someone in the local cosplay community who introduced me to more people and I started learning every day about cosplaying, where to buy cosplays, how to make cosplays, and different makeup looks to make the cosplays work. About a year into my cosplaying journey a photographer reached out to me and asked me to model a bridal gown for a photoshoot she had planned.

I told her I wasn’t a model. But she said she saw my cosplay photos and she knew I was capable. So I went to that first photoshoot and I have grown in my modeling journey ever since. I have been published multiple times nationally and internationally, and I have walked in runways for the last 4 years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s always a struggle to put yourself out there.

When you’re a cosplayer a lot of people put you under a microscope for your costumes. They judge you if you make the costume, they judge you if you buy the costume, either way, you can’t win. As a model, it’s even more difficult. People will comment on your body constantly.

Point out if you’ve gained weight or lost weight, tell you you’re too tall or too short, tell you the shape of your face doesn’t work for the look they had planned. But in the end, both are very rewarding experiences and allow me to be creative in different ways.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a cosplayer and model.

Those two things don’t always go hand in hand. I can create different makeup looks and outfits. I’m essentially a one-woman show. I am most proud of the charity work I am a part of. I got into cosplay for the kids. I wanted to do the hospital visits. I wanted to be a bright spot in an otherwise horrible day for the little ones.

I am with a group now called the Just-us League. We do a lot of charity events in the area where we get to help kids and families in need. It’s my favorite part of cosplaying.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being outgoing and cheerful. Because I am a people person I am constantly interacting with people and branching out more and more. It’s important to have connections in both the cosplaying world and the modeling world.
