Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Bermudez.
Hi Brianna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I made a personal Instagram at the end of 2018, I found on the explore page: decoden phone cases. These cases were so cute, and I wanted to try to make them. Along with the decoden community, I found the resin community as well.
I learned that decoden and resin went hand and hand, so I gave both a try. From what I can remember, the story of Resin Wishes began in July 2019. That’s when I first started researching and experimenting with decoden and epoxy resin.
During this time, I realized I liked the decoden phone cases I was making for myself and my family, but I enjoyed making resin items so much more. I was also approaching my last semester at UMKC for my BBA in entrepreneurship and marketing. I decided, “Why don’t I try to make this a business?”. September 2019, I went for it and created an Instagram and Etsy store.
Around June 2020, after creating a good amount of resin pieces, I wanted to be able to brand/label my pieces with my business name. Even though customers were buying the pieces directly from me, it still felt like my pieces were missing something. This made me get into creating resin foils. Resin foils are transparent film sheets (with designs/words) that you can put into/on resin items with epoxy or UV resin.
With resin foils, I was able to make my own foil sheets with my name on them to brand my resin pieces. Slowly, this evolved into me making signatures, logos, and Instagram QR codes for other resin shops too. A need that I had was a big need for other shops as well. Not only do I make branding foil sheets for shops, but I also create foil sheets with artwork on them too.
After more than a year of testing, working, and growing, Resin Wishes became an LLC; December 2020. To flash forward to 2022, Resin Wishes creates cute resin art and foils. The resin art includes keychains, earrings, necklaces, hair clips, trays, trinket bowls, coasters, pins, magnets, charms, ashtrays, and more. It took a lot of time and work to get to where it is today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Unfortunately, It hasn’t been a smooth road and it still isn’t. The biggest struggle I had and still have is my lack of experience. When I first started working on Resin Wishes, I was only 20 years old. Even though I was going to school for business, the information you gain sometimes doesn’t apply to your individual situation.
I definitely knew more about running a business than someone without a business degree or someone that didn’t take business classes, but I still was missing the specific information and training for my specific business. Even when it comes to the fun things; like creating art for the business, there’s a lot of trial and error.
Throughout my journey, I find myself constantly having to learn something new or having to pivot when things don’t work out. Some other struggles are trying to make a living off my business and selling my products. Both are still problems I’m trying to work on and figure out.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create cute resin art and foils!
The resin art includes keychains, earrings, necklaces, hair clips, trays, trinket bowls, coasters, pins, magnets, charms, ashtrays, and more. The resin foils are transparent film sheets (with designs/words) that you can put into/on resin items with epoxy or UV resin. These foils are designed specifically for resin shops to use in their projects. All items are handmade.
I’m most proud of being able to make an item that didn’t exist before! Since my items are handmade, each one is created from scratch and goes through different steps to come to life.
I think what sets me apart from others is my mission and drive. My mission is to make your resin wishes come true, whether it’s with a cute and unique resin item or a resin foil for your shop. What matters most to me is that I fulfilled your wish and you’re ultimately happy with the finished product. I also added my drive because as I noted before I’m struggling to make sales and a living off my business.
Even so, I’ve been still working on Resin Wishes no matter what. At the end of the day, I really love what I do. I’ve seen many resin shops close due to not blowing up, making sales, etc. I’ve come close to wanting to shut down and quit many times, but I’ve kept pushing.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
This is a hard question. I guess something surprising that most people that know my work/brand might not know about me is that I’ve never thought of myself as an artist/creative.
I actually never started working with art or being “creative” until I started working on Resin Wishes. I’ve always been fascinated by art, but I was never the artist myself. I think this can be surprising for some people because most people in the art field have been into art/artists since they were a kid or for many years.
I still sometimes struggle with feeling like an artist/creative because I can’t draw well and don’t have that history. BUT I have learned that despite not being able to draw well and having that history, I’m still creative and make great resin art.
