Daily Inspiration: Meet CW Khalil

Today we’d like to introduce you to CW Khalil.

Hi CW, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I moved to Kansas City (originally born in San Francisco) around 7-8. Me and my mother now homeless, moved in with my auntie and cousins until we got on our feet.

Eventually, we did just that, and at a young age, I always had a love for rap or music. 50 cent has and always will be my favorite rapper of all time and very influential to me. I fell in love with everything about rap. The cadence’s, punchlines, delivery, the flow, literally everything, and I knew this was what I wanted to do.

I got my first taste of a real studio around 9. My childhood friend’s mom’s boyfriend was a rapper and let us f*cked around in the studio, and truly I knew this was what I wanted to do.

Years past I went thru my phases. It wasn’t until I got to high school that I started recording music. 2k16 was the SoundCloud era, and everybody was copying Uzi and Carti. I knew I wanted to be different. I put out my first song feeling good, and at its peak, it reaches 9k streams in a month. I knew I had potential.

Following my other tracks, they weren’t getting the exposure like the normal bullsh*t on the radio, so I gave it up. I never was a tread follower anybody can tell you that know me Khalil gone be Khalil regardless of what anybody thinks. Fast forward it’s 2020. I have a son, living on my own, and hustled up a bag to blow. Being a rapper isn’t cheap, so I decided f*ck it let’s put his money to good use. Booked studio time with me and a couple of homies and recorded my first ever studio-recorded single, “Knocked Off.”

If I remember correctly, it hit somewhere between 500- 1K in the first 24 hours, and I knew then I would take this sh*t seriously. Being where I am in Kansas City, everybody is doing a lot of the same thing.

There’s a saying that if it is not broken, don’t fix it, and I agree, so I am not knocking anybody. But I know with my unique style that sounds more like where I’m from with the West Coast feel mixed with Dis Killa City Sh*t, it was more challenging for me to get noticed. To this day, I’m probably the most slept on artist in the city because of this.

I didn’t get my buzz off a diss, remix, or make the same song repeatedly. But purely off my unique style. When I want to quit, my fans and support group keep me going. It is electric every time I perform, and I truly love it, and with every song every project I drop, I get better and grow my fan base. I know my times are coming; I’m just as patient as possible. I’ve only been rapping for two years now seriously, so I’m just beginning. I got a long way to go. Everybody goes stream my latest project, ‘Slippery Slope 2,’ on all streaming platforms.

Shout out to my brother, Tez, mom, the CW promo team, and gangland, who support me. RIP Colby, Jlock, And Austin yall know I do this for y’all. Also, check on some of my favorite artist from the town. 2times, Tee Ohh, Foefive Vyg, 4nickk, CTB BINO, Glocc , Boogie , Barti, Shun Ann, Rosae Michelle, Jeodecap and MB58. Niggas my inspiration seeing their success. Also shout out sleazyworld go, CW Da Youngblood and wil slap for Always showing love to me.

Sleazy probably one of da most real “Big Name“ rappers residing out the town. Only nigga with a name to tap in with my music from the start on sum real nigga sh*t.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road? Some struggles have been figuring out my sound and how I say things.

Anybody who talks to me knows I have a hard time speaking. Many people don’t know it’s the cause of my speech issues and have to focus on what I say and how I say it. Sometimes it’s tough for me to make sure it doesn’t show in my raps and not enough exposure.

Many people out there town only support who is popular and not who is talented.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist, I specialize in rapping that’s my professional career and what I’m known for. I’m most proud of my authenticity and the generosity I have. Nobody shows more love than I do and most of the time I don’t receive it back.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to branch out or let your pride get in the way of asking for help. There are people that wanna see you win.
