Check Out Stef Huschka’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stef Huschka.

Hi Stef, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My story starts when I was very, very young & writing homemade books at 5 years old. As I grew older, I became more fascinated by condensing my books & making them into poems. Eventually, those poems turned to songs & I was hooked.

I wasn’t exposed to a ton of music growing up, so I more or less started creating music when I wanted to hear it. I can’t imagine growing up in a time like today where music is just so accessible. When I was 17, I moved from Montana to Minneapolis, MN, to attend music school & pretty much started touring immediately. I cycled through a lot of bandmates since we were still teenagers, but I somehow kept City of the Weak afloat with a lot of hard work & determination.

Fast forward 10 years and we’ve shared the stage with greats like Ozzy Osbourne, Korn, Rob Zombie, & played tons of major music festivals around the country, including Summerfest, Chicago Open Air, Rock Fest, Warped Tour, & so many more. It’s crazy to look back and think that we did this all on our own.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. We’ve done 28 tours & had broken down vehicles on many of those, been screwed over by various industry people, rolled one of our vans, been robbed multiple times, ruined our finances, lost many great jobs, lost relationships & friendships, essentially sacrificed anything & everything for our music.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in rock ‘n roll! We are known for our groovy basslines, clean vocals, & brash yet inspiring lyrics.

I’m most proud of the fact that we have figured out how to navigate such a hard industry on our own. The amount of consistent success and attention we’ve had over the years is really shocking considering we are still completely independent. I think our musicianship & consistency at every single show is what sets us apart.

We are all trained, great musicians & are always striving to be the best we can be.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was teaching music! I had a little makeshift music studio in my sister’s old bedroom & I would teach piano, guitar, & trombone lessons in it. I loved inspiring others & helping them meet their musical goals.
