Meet Shiny Dreamers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shiny Dreamers.

Hi Shiny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello! My name is Savii and I founded Shiny Dreamers. After moving to Kansas City from going to school in Texas, I decided I needed some way to make new friends in the area. So, I did what any young adult would do, and took to the internet. Dancing has always been one of my passions along with cosplaying, so I decided I wanted to make a cosplay dance group here in KC.

During the summer of 2017, I posted on multiple KC local group Facebook pages asking if anyone would be interested in joining a Japanese Idol Dance Group! Specifically, I was looking to cast a group based around the J-idol anime, Love Live! After a couple of weeks, our team was made up of 9 people, who were almost total strangers at this point. We met up for the first time in September of 2017 at Komatsu, a local ramen shop. From then on, we took to the skies!

We were so passionate about our dream to spread our love for J-Idols that we performed at anime conventions (Naka-kon, Planet Comic-con, Glitchcon, etc.) from around the Midwest and later started filming our own music videos and video projects. Through Shiny Dreamers, I have been able to meet so many new faces and performed with amazing people I will always call my teammates.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since we are a dance group based around a common hobby, most of us did not have a huge background in dance at the beginning.

Our biggest struggle was learning how to dance and even just learning how to follow an already-choreographed dance took some time to adjust. Over time our group has developed into a great group of friends that no matter how hard the choreography may be, we can lean on those with more experience to help teach and guide the group.

Dancing is not easy, and we all have to start somewhere!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in quite a few things! Firstly, we dance! We learn choreography from Japanese Idol groups overseas and try to recreate them here in the U.S! It can get especially tricky when some of the dances are based on 2D/3d animated models rather than actual people.

This leads to the cosplay aspect. We are huge fans of anime and manga, so when we cover songs that are based on fictional idols/characters we try to dress the part. We do our best to recreate what we might see originally in animation and bring it into the real world, that is our specialty! We are most proud of our performances and music videos on YouTube.

We spend many hours, sometimes over 6 months, learning choreography and creating the coinciding costumes. We are best known in the idol community for our attention to detail, however, we are starting to take more artistic freedoms in our design choices in our most recent projects.

What does success mean to you?
If we have fun, then we have succeeded!
