Community Highlights: Meet Alexander Toliver of Presidential SoftWash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Toliver.

Hi Alexander, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up as a kid, I’ve always been in business, my father started a small painting company in 2003. When it was time for me to graduate high school, I had to make a choice. Figuring it out, I wanted to go to college to learn how to run a business and I realized that was stupid, why rack up $1-200k in debt when my dad could teach me for free.

It was in late 2018 we decided I’d go into business washing homes from the roof down. Presidential SoftWash is a family-owned and operated business, NOT a franchise! We’ve heard that before since we had our designs made up professionally, but we are a local small business all the same.

Our name and slogan came from “The Buck Stops Here”, from the only Missouri President, Harry Truman- hints the name- Presidential SoftWash “The YUCK Stops Here!” We found a group that trains individuals to start and run a SoftWashing business with the right systems to lead towards success. Now, we run a crew of 5 people, 2 on a truck, 2 running sales, and one office admin. Everyone we hire undergoes 20+ hours of online training to familiarize themselves with all our equipment.

When you hire Presidential SoftWash you hire a highly trained, knowledgeable, and third-party background checked crew. I’ve been running Presidential SoftWash with the help of my father for the last 3 years now, and we are growing quickly! I’m excited to see what the future holds for us.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning, believe it or not, we only made enough money to cover our monthly expenses for the entire year.

Which means we didn’t fail, but we didn’t make any money at all. Year two was a rough road too- our small town environment wasn’t ready to support the kind of growth we were looking for. Year three however really shot off.

We hired a salesman to help spread the word and sell jobs to keep our service truck busy, and now we have consistent months.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Presidential SoftWash?
Presidential SoftWash is an exterior cleaning and sanitization company. We clean everything outdoors from the roof down. Softwashing uses 1/3 of the water of traditional pressure washing, is biodegradable, lasts 4-6x longer than a pressure washing, is fully electric (no loud pressure washers), and we never hit your home with any more than garden hose pressure!

Our company values our clients just as much if not more than our work, that’s why we offer 100% satisfaction, and only hire people that can pass an international criminal and sex offender background check from a third-party company (Ask the Seal). We use top-of-the-line products from SoftWash Systems to ensure that our clients receive top-of-the-line service. What many people don’t know is in our industry, a true SoftWash system doesn’t use a power washing machine.

Anyone can buy a Home Depot special and join the pressure washing industry. Not everyone can put a true-to-heart SoftWash Skid in the back of a sturdy truck to make sure your home is washed properly. Having someone pressure wash your roof can not only void your warranty, but can cause cracks, leaks, and shorten the life of your roof significantly.

On the flip side, soft washing lasts 4-6x longer than pressure washing and adds up to 50% to the life of your roof.

How do you define success?
This one is a very broad question. Everyone has a different opinion on success, and you may get a different answer from a 40-50-year-old rather than a 20-year-old like myself. My true definition of success is being able to look in the mirror and feel proud of myself.

I don’t want to be the boss that people go home and complain about. I don’t want to be the business that people use and feel cheated or misled. Success is the consistent growth of a body. I like to think of anyone that takes part in Presidential SoftWash – whether a client, worker, etc etc- as a part of a human body or a machine.

We are all working together to grow and build a constantly moving machine. Success is working together to achieve the greatest results. Success is everyone working together to build each other up and create a healthy community that everyone has a feeling of belonging to.
