Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Shrader.
Kim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Fashion has always been a passion that I loved and had dreamed of owning a clothing boutique. After meeting my husband in 2015 and moving to the rural area of Saline County, I realized that I was driving to KC or to Sedalia to shop for clothing. I found my employment at the time not fulfilling my full potential, so I took $2,000 and invested in two racks of clothing, and started Shabby 2 Chic Boutiques.
I kept putting the money back into the business and bought an enclosed trailer which I renovated into a mobile boutique. I’ll never forget the day that Steve suggested that I quit my job and open a brick and mortar in one of his farmhouses. We were not married at the time and I’m a very independent person so it took me a week before I took him up on the offer.
After opening the brick and mortar, I continued to travel throughout Central Missouri and the KC area participating in festivals with the mobile boutique. In 2019, I moved my brick and mortar to Sedalia, and currently, we still are participating in area festivals with the mobile boutique.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m very fortunate that it has been a very smooth road, thus far. I only was closed for one month during Covid.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We fully believe that we provide a shopping experience you won’t find anywhere else and that clothing impacts everything. No matter your age, your size, your shape-you deserve to feel beautiful no matter what. Customer service is our focus at Shabby 2 Chic Boutiques.
Shabby 2 Chic Boutiques can take you from the farm to the night out on the town with a variety of brands and styles that we carry. Including Dear John, Hidden Denim, Kut, Z Supply, Rock and Roll Denim, just to name a few.
We are a small business that is active in our community and love supporting other small businesses. Being raised on a farm and now a farm-wife, I find it very important to be a support of our youth in agriculture.
We recently won the Best of the Best Boutique in Sedalia, MO.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a podcast junkie!!! A couple of my favorites are The Brendon Show, Marketing Ink, Rachael Hollis, and The Boutique Hub. I love a great self-help book. A couple of my favorites are Profit First, Girl Code, and Untamed.
