Meet Anna Pollitt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Pollitt.

Hi Anna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
When I had my firstborn son, I decided to buy a nice camera because I knew I would want to have better than phone quality photos of him. After a while I found out I was pretty passionate about photography and I had a pretty good eye, so I started offering portrait photography to family and friends.

After a while what started as a hobby, morphed into a full flown business. About a year after my business started, I had seen a photo on Facebook of birth photography and I thought that was pretty neat and I would love to try that. I had a friend who was pregnant at the time, and after talking with her, she was thrilled to invite me into her birth space so I could try my hand at birth photography. As soon as I left that birth, I knew I had found what I wanted to do from there on out.

There is something so special about witnessing and documenting the miracle of birth. Not only is it the most empowering thing, but it gives you the most natural high. I am incredibly blessed to have been invited to capture over 60 beautiful births in the last 6 years.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been surprisingly smooth. I would say the hardest part about being a birth photographer, or any birth worker would be the on-call life. The unknown of when you will get called to a birth, what time of day, how long you will be there, etc. Birth is very unpredictable, each birth is different so you never know what the work is going to be like.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a birth photographer and videographer. Birth has been my niche for almost 7 years now and I am incredibly passionate about all things birth. I rarely take other kinds of photography jobs. I am so proud of how far I have come as a photographer. My skills, techniques, style, and knowledge have grown so much over the years.

Not only have I been able to help other photographers as they have come to work in the birth world, but I have learned so much about labor/birth as well and have been able to be a resource for many friends/family who has been pregnant.

What’s next?
The biggest change that is happening right now is my family is growing! We are about to welcome our third baby this December 2021. I plan on taking about 6 months of maternity leave and will be accepting clients in 2022 who have June due dates or later.
