Conversations with Katie Cullen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Cullen. 

Hi Katie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hi! I’m Katie, creator of Earth Gypsy. I’m a certified wellness coach and Reiki practitioner, the mom of 3 beautiful kiddos, and lover of yoga, plant-based nutrition, green juice, books, and connecting in nature. The Earth Gypsy Story: 

I believe this story started when I was a little girl. My family has a cabin in Estes Park Colorado that my grandfather built when my mom was young. I have the Rocky Mountains embedded deep into my DNA. As a little girl, we would spend all of our vacation time in the mountains and my sisters and I would run around the mountains collecting the most beautiful stones we could find. We would then bring them back to the cabin, wash them with love, and set them out to dry. We would then set up shop, and try to sell these mountain beauties to our family :). I’m not sure that we ever made a penny as rock shop proprietors, but we were content and completely blissful in that place. 

To this day, the Rocky Mountains are still my “heart place”, and I am still inspired by the beauty of the rocks, trees, and the smell of the mountain air. I live to hike, and I find my peace when I’m on the trail. I still pick up stones that catch my eye and inspire me in some way. 

Earth Gypsy LLC. was born from a vision in 2017. I imagined a lifestyle brand that connected with people on a soul level, and that would inspire them to connect with nature and live with intention. My desire with Earth Gypsy is to create beautiful gemstone jewelry that will connect our customers with the Earth, and that will inspire a heart connection in some way. Whether it is a healing stone that will serve as a reminder of how to let go of stress, or if it is look of a certain piece that serves as a reminder of a sacred place, I look forward to hearing what that is for each of our customers. 

Each piece is hand-crafted with love, and I love all of the connections that this brand allows me to make. I love the Earth Gypsy Tribe! 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been two challenges that I’ve faced since launching Earth Gypsy. One is personal development, and the other is business expansion. Personal Development: One of the pillars of Earth Gypsy is mindfulness. Each piece of jewelry is created with a special intention, energy, and essence that is designed to illuminate the person who chooses to wear it. For me to hold the light of mindfulness and create space for the practice for my Earth Gypsy tribe, means that I have to infuse my life with it. Ben Sweetland says, “We cannot hold a torch to light another’s path without brightening our own.” 

When we make a decision to raise our vibration and serve as a light for others, we will be given challenges and opportunities to test that resolve. The challenges (opportunities) have been the continuous “evolution of self” to release those things that don’t serve me and align with those that do. I’m learning to easily recognize what those things are in my life, by tuning in at a higher level. I consistently hold myself accountable to daily meditation and yoga practices, releasing patterns and habits that don’t serve me, committing 1000% to my mind/body/spirit, and radical self-love. Sometimes in this vibration, there are waves of bliss when everything feels light, and that light is easily recognized by others. Other times, I’ve hit moments that cause me to rest and balance so that I can vibrate at a higher level as I share that light with the world. 

Business Expansion: One of the main business challenges is that every piece of jewelry is hand-crafted by me, so this business model is hard to scale. Currently, I am working with a business coach to help me source products that align with the Earth Gypsy brand. This expanded collection will be ready in early 2022, along with “Create your magic” bracelet kits. I’m excited about the evolution of the brand and the next chapter in the business! 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Earth Gypsy was born from a vision, and I’m proud of myself for listening, aligning, and saying “yes” to the tugs in my heart. I have an amazing tribe of girlfriends who shared input with the name, the logo, and the website design, but I designed the brand and all aspects of it. It’s been an incredible labor of intentionality and love. 

I am known for creating healing gemstone bracelets and malas, but I believe what sets the brand apart are the “Create” classes that were launched in 2019. These classes bring people together in community and connect me to so many beautiful people. It’s been an incredible opportunity that has taught me so much about the human experience through the connections that I’ve made. During the course of the workshop, the participants put their creativity to work to create a unique gemstone bracelet that will serve as a tangible reminder of their vibrant and creative energy that will be shared with the world when they wear it.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There are two important lessons that I’ve learned along the way. The first is to stay open. Open to your intuition to guide you. Open to the voices of other people who you trust to serve as advisors to your business. Ask the universe (God, Source, the Divine), for what you need, and listen for the answers. Surround yourself with the people and the ideas that are aligned to the direction that you want to go. The second lesson is to fiercely guard your energy. As we step into our power and create new opportunities, there will be people that don’t understand, support, or align with the direction we are going. Not every person that is in our life is supposed to be there for our entire journey. Some are there for a certain moment, others are there for a chapter. You know the people who give you energy, and the ones who take away from it. Listen carefully to that voice as you continue to the next level of your journey.
