Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth McIntosh.
Hi Kenneth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town in northwest Missouri with my parents and two younger brothers. There wasn’t much to do in a place where everyone knew everybody and their grandmother. Once I got tired of cow tipping and driving the same streets over and over, the only thing left to do was write. It’s always been something I’ve enjoyed. I wrote and presented a children’s book with my best friend in school, I wrote fantasy, horror, and anything else my mind could work into a piece of art. I moved to California to get a taste of life in my early 20’s, had my two handsome boys, and after trials and tribulations ended up back in Missouri. I went through a challenging divorce, dealt with anxiety, and my hardships gave me the push I needed to pursue my goals as a writer. I now own a home I share with my wife and kids in the Kansas City area where I write daily, ever working toward those goals.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh no, it has been one of those makeshift roads on frozen lakes like they’ve got on Ice Road Truckers. I have battled learning disorders, domestic abuse, panic and anxiety. I have lived with severe depression while trying to balance a work life, home life, and a blossoming career as a novelist. It has been a difficult road, but one worth traveling.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am primarily a writer of novels and short stories in the horror and fantasy genres. I have works published on several podcasts, including a fully narrated short story called ‘In The Blood’ available on the Night’sEnd podcast.
My epic fantasy novel series is called ‘The Veins of Power’ and will be available for purchase in late 2022.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Oh boy. I was sarcastic, full of sass. My friends and I were wild animals. We got into our fair share of trouble, with the law and with our parents. Somehow I managed to keep the love of my English teachers, and they had a profound impact on me that kept me writing. Some of my high school teachers even help edit my books!
