Daily Inspiration: Meet Aryan Tayal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aryan Tayal.

Hi Aryan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My dad had a very basic DSLR when I was in elementary school and would always take pictures whenever and wherever. My dad and I would take pictures together and play around with the camera. As this became the norm for me – I started to take more pictures with my iPhone and started getting into editing the pictures. I loved manipulating the colors and changing the mood of a picture. At the time thinking I was really good (lol) – but I just kept up with the passion of just finding the aesthetic in everything.

Eventually, I started using my dad’s camera throughout high school and took a film photography class as well as a film-making class. This gave me access to a lot more equipment and helped fuel some of the creativity and passion that was inside me. I would do some random photoshoots and watch hundreds of YouTube tutorials to improve my photography and the editing side of the art.

Throughout college, I would take my camera with me on family vacations or go on some photoshoot adventures with some of my friends who shared the same passion. My friend was part of a committee in college that brought artists to perform for the students. This led me to meet some notable artists and gave me a great opportunity to try concert photography. Some of my friends who knew I was into photography started asking me to take their graduation pictures. It was astounding because it was the first time people offered to compensate me for a hobby that I did for fun. As I kept doing these shoots, I would get better each year – and my amazing friends would keep supporting me. After a couple of shoots, I started to find my style and I got to the point where I was proud of my work resulting in more interest from others for a shoot.

Now that I have graduated college, I plan to continue challenging myself and venturing into different types of photography and focus more time on videography. I am doing this through my new venture, Bloom Media (Bloom for short). Bloom was made by me and my two friends to bring KC some of the highest quality pictures and videos for weddings – having a specialty in South Asian weddings.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely never been a smooth road – one big struggle for me is creative depletion – I will tend to get very super critical of my work and it will unmotivate me to go out and try new ideas or to even just take pictures. This tends to happen to a lot of people, and I would encourage everyone to find more people that share similar passions and collaborate to bounce ideas off each other and try to spark that passion back up. You never know any opportunity can lead to bigger ones, and even if it doesn’t – it is just an experience to learn from.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am primarily a photographer but also do some videography work. I primarily do a lot of portrait shoots for my clients. As I mentioned earlier I recently launched a new company, Bloom Media. Bloom Media primarily focuses on wedding events as well as stylistic engagement shoots. This includes photo but video coverage that highlights your engagement and wedding event in a mini cinematic movie!

I would say my personal style is very stylistic with the tones but I change the edits up based on the scene, the lighting and obviously to the client’s request. The same type of edits cannot always work in every situation and that’s where the challenge and creativity of editing comes in. As proud as I am with my client shoots – I would say I am also very proud of some of the edits I do for my personal page. I like to edit my pictures differently because it is highly influenced by the feelings and the concept in my head. I tend to keep my edits realistic but will sometimes add a piece of my imagination to it to make it unique. ie. adding the elements to the picture or combining two pictures to make a composite.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Everyone is different and everyone is learning. I love sharing the knowledge that I have gained from my experiences with others because when I started, I wish I had that person to look up to and ask my questions. I still have so much to learn and am by no means I am a master. Photography/Videography is a passion and very subjective art. I believe in cultivating a community where people encourage each other to grow and use each other’s work to inspire one another.
