Inspiring Conversations with Madison Harpst of The Little Blonde House

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Harpst.

Hi Madison, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in business management and marketing. I knew I had an interest in real estate but didn’t know how or when that would come to play as a career for me. I have always worked in customer service, from the food & beverage industry to retail & eventually retail events, with each experience giving me more and more insight into working with people. In 2017 the stars quickly aligned and I obtained my real estate license and joined ReMax Innovations. There is a small amount of time between passing your test & getting your license & it was in that time that The Little Blonde House was created. I’ve always had a love for fashion & home decor. Coupled with a passion for helping others, I knew that I wanted The Little Blonde House to be more than just your typical real estate business. I saw it as a lifestyle brand people could come to before, during, and after their home buying/selling process. The Little Blonde House offers a real estate & lifestyle blog others can use as a resource for everything from fashion to decor to tips to get your home list ready as well as a place for me to broadcast exclusive listings coming to market! It has been everything I imagined & more & I cannot thank my friends, family & clients turned friends who have allowed me the opportunity to do what I love!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Surprisingly yes, challenging? For sure, but that is why I chose to dip my toes into real estate in the first place! I love a challenge, I love being in control of my future & having the opportunity to help people achieve a lifelong investment is icing on the cake! I am constantly learning, whether that is new software to make the buying process easier or an obstacle that comes up in a transaction that I have to figure out how to overcome, it’s an ongoing challenge. I work endlessly to make sure my buyers & sellers have the most pleasant, stress-free experience as possible. From the minute we sit down to talk about buying and/or selling to the closing table, they know they can call, email, text with anything & I will do everything in my power to make sure they have the smoothest transaction.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Little Blonde House is a modern-day take on the real estate business. I wanted each step of the buying or selling process to be tailored to my clients individually. From writing a contract to closing on your new home to design ideas about the kitchen upgrade they are going to complete before moving in, The Little Blonde House offers it all! When I first created The Little Blonde House, I was asked “do you sell shoes, or do you sell houses?” Well.. the answer is both! I am fully aware that not every single person is currently in the market to buy or sell a house. However, I knew that when they were ready, I wanted them to think of me! Through my blog, Instagram & Facebook I have been able to connect with thousands of people, whether that’s about Real Estate or my top Christmas Gift picks for your family. I have loved what this space has turned into- I share recipes, upcoming sales at my favorite boutiques, home decor & answer first-time home buying questions all in the same space! There is no better feeling than chatting back & forth with someone about a product they bought & loved from a recommendation I made & later helping them find their first home! When buying a house, we all want to use someone we can relate to & have fun with. Think about it- home buying can take a while, we spend a lot of time together, it needs to be an enjoyable experience right? That’s why I love what I do. No one buyer or seller is the same, no transaction is ever the same & watching my clients get the keys to their new home is why I do what I do!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
If Covid showed the real estate market anything, it was that people realized how important their home & how they felt in their home truly was. Whether it was a family who realized they would quickly outgrow their house now that both parents were working from home & the kiddos were online learning or the couple who realized it was time to fast track their home purchase because both of them working from the kitchen counter of their apartment just wasn’t going to work any longer, I saw it all! “We need a home, and we need it now”. It sounds great from a sales perspective, except for when there wasn’t any inventory to show them! When it first started, I would get to a showing 30 minutes early to clorox every single doorknob & countertop for my buyers and provide hand sanitizer, masks and booties for my sellers listings. We are still using a lot of these practices but have adjusted according to guidelines. When people ask if the market is “still crazy?” My typical response is that it is still strong, which it is- buyers need to be competitive & it’s a great time to sell your home if you want to make a decent profit. Is it challenging? Yes, is it doable? Definitely.
